Gee, doesn't sound right that your bike should all of a sudden be overheating that bad. Do you know someonw with an infared temp gun to compare temps? Especially if your water pump is working, fan working and full of fluids. I've brought mine to rally's and rides and amaze the guys at the actual temps thier bikea are running with some gauges really being off bad. Andy n Louisiana

I went to the hardware store and got a piece of pipe foam inselation and trimed it to fit on the outer edge of the radiator them replaced the rad-scoop.Now 100% of the air that it catchs go thru the radiator with none going around it .I cant remember my fan coming on once in Mexico. overheating

Hey Guys! Seems lately, Ive noticed my 07 KLR Temp guage, hovering near the red zone, and staying there for awhile, used to be, at a stop light, I can hear the fan kick in for a few moments, then shut off when I start accelerating and kick in again when I shut it off for a few mins.. Now, Im concerned that I may do damage, before that, it would run all day without getting past the the halfway point. Ive checked the coolant level, all is good there, the oil seems to be ok. but with the fan now, I can here a hum rather than a whir associated with the fan. Guess it's time to take my bike in to the dealership, but any advice from you guys would be appreciated. thanks WOLF --------------------------------- Shape Yahoo! in your own image. <><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><> WOLF, I suggest you pull the wire from the bottom of the radiator and touch the metal end to the side of the head/cylinder. There are shiny (when new) ridges there that should be a great ground for the circuit. The fan should turn on while the wire is touching grounded to the engine. If the fan turns on you'll know it. If it doesn't turn on then you have another issue. A blown fuse is easy to check. The stock location is on the right side under the tank shroud. It's strapped to the coolant overflow bottle support. If I recall correctly it's a 10amp fuse. You could also unplug the wire from the bottom of the radiator and then put your fingers up to the fan and make sure it spins. I probably wouldn't do that to a hot bike with the wire plugged in as if it starts spinning it could cut you. If the fan doesn't spin then the fan shroud is possibly bent into the fan blade. Pull the tank shroud and take a look at what's causing it to stick. If the fan works like it's supposed to I have to other comments. The temperature gage gets a reading from the top of the head. I think it was Jeff Layton that had quite a fiasco with Kawasaki getting his fixed. He got numerous new parts from the dealer that were out of spec. Maybe he'll chime in here and explain the situation. Also, if it's an 07 model I think this would be a fine time to take it to the dealer and let them fix it under warranty. overheating after freezing weather

Post by Eric J Foster » Thu Dec 17, 2009 10:04 pm

I haven't had time to follow the thread, but did anyone mention that the coolant is probably freezing while riding the bike? A car will do the same thing if weak on AF. It'll be fine in the yard, but once you start rolling down the road it'll freeze the core of the radiator. Barring that no damage has been done due to overheating or expansion of frozen galleries, I'd put the proper 50/50 mix in and run it. Simple trouble shooting, start with the simple answer, then freak out. E -- Guns kill people like silverware made Rosie O'Donnel fat.........
