Any suqestions for pipes and headers for the klr 05, I live in Sf and all my bikes have loud pipes, if they can hear me they can see me. Power is also nice

Glad you don't live next door to me. Also, some of the best hiking trails in my area are accessed through private property owned by an outfit called the Navigators. I can't go to the trailhead on my klr because they don't allow motorcycles. Guess why ? Noise. Can't say that I blame them but I do wish they had the means to distinguish between loud and quiet bikes. Bogdan

My Supertrapp is well maintained isn't that loud, especially when just riding along. At WOT, I'm sure I'm less than stealthy, but it's not obnoxious. If someone wants to ride a bike with a loud pipe that calls attention to the rider and gives the rest of us a bad name, they should go ahead and get the Harley and make IT loud. If that isn't enough, all the rednecks around here on their ATV's like to remove the silencer. Not replace it...remove it, so it's nice and loud. Between that and all of them cracking their empty and helmetless heads, a favorite riding area here has been made inaccessable by land owners and the state. Let me suggest this to anyone who thinks a loud bike is a safe bike: Be more defensive when you ride and always be aware of safe exits from potentially bad situations. I know this requires thinking, but it can be done. As a bonus, this habit will eventually carry over to your car and you'll be a safer driver too.

I was warming my KLR up the other day and walked across the parking lot to throw something in the dumpster. As I got on the far side of the lot, I realized I couldn't hear my bike running (stock-piped 09'). At first I thought it'd quit. Then I realized, "It's just that quiet at idle." Ditto my GL1800. Cool! eddie

I don't like the open pipes also, but would like a slightly more 'throaty' sound from mine, not too much just a bit. When my kids old Honda's exhaust system rusted in a couple of places is sounded nicer, I know it's bad but I drove it a while till I got under it and patched it up! I too start mine each day, now it's winter and it's hard to hear running inside the warm house!

I have an '09 with a tweety-ectomy. It is slightly louder than stock, but it sounds a lot healthier. My brother borrowed it the other day, and as he rode away I made note of the sound. One block away, it was barely noticeable, definitely not annoying. two blocks... couldn't hear it at all. It sounds about as loud as a harley with stock pipes. I still think it's under the legal DB limit. It does make a performance difference, mainly in mid-range torque. If you ride mine and then ride my brother's back-to-back (same year, same mods minus the tweety deletion), you can most certainly tell the difference. -Jeff Khoury
