i'm back ........... with questions.
This is my second attempt. LOL!
I accidently sent the last message to just one member. My mistake...........
So here goes again:
I was a member here before, and I left the group some time back.
Anyway, I couldn't handle it no more, I bought another KLR.
Yesterday I picked up a new 2009 in BLACK. Did I mention it is BLACK?
Believe it or not, I traded a Vstar 1100 in on it. I am just not a "cruiser" type of guy. I had 3400 miles on that bike after 2+ years, and I never wanted to take it out of the garage.
My previous two KLRs were a 1989 I bought used in 1991, and a 2007 I bought new in 2006; that one I traded in on the Vstar mid 2007, thinking I wanted a "big bike".
Well, I am glad to be back to a "fun" bike. Now, the only complaint I have is the complaint that I had with the other two - I am only 5 foot 8.
So, this time I am going to LOWER something; I'd prefer to start with lowering the seat, rather than the suspension. Anyone care to make a recommend a particular seat? I was leaning Corbin, but I'm open to other options.........
Thanks in advance......

I would start with the Corbin Dual-Platform. It's more comfy over time than the dished one, as it allows you to move around a bit more to eliminate those hotspots. They also have those 40mm lowering links if you want to go further.
I have the exact same black '09, and I love it.
I had an opportunity to ride a BMW R1200C a couple of weeks ago after fixing the Magura Hydraulic clutch on it. I've never felt so unsafe in my life. The acceleration was slower than my KLR (yes, my brother and I dragged them just to see), the suspension was garbage and the brakes were "just fair". I couldn't wait to get off it. I expected more from BMW. It just re-affirmed that I'm not a cruiser guy. *spit*
Happy trails and ride safe.

Welcome back,
Not so sure about 5'8" but at 5'10" I found just by letting the fork tubes slide up about 3/4" ~ 1" (even on both sides of course) gave me that footing I needed.
No doubt I will hear about the rake angles and such, but I have no problems with handling, but I am running D606 Front and a K270 Rear and tend not to push corners to much on knobbies (on pavement anyway).

my '08 at 14,000mi
My '04 KLR used ONLY 750 cc of Mobil 1 15w-50 over my 12,400 km ride to Alaska this summer, and that INCLUDES the oil that leaked (Day 1) when my 'prevailing torque' countershaft nut loosened, letting the sprocket slide left when I put the bike on its sidestand after it's first fill w/ gas (I fill-up straddling it so it gets FULL!!!), and, I guess, un-seating the O-ring behind it. LUCKY for me it re-seated when I seated the sprocket, then tightened the nut. Admittedly, MOST of the trip was ridden at 55 to 60 mph INDICATED. And there was NO magnetic material on my magnetic drain plug when I got home and changed the oil and filter.
I carry blue Loctite, and put it onto ANY fastener I remove/ replace for ANY reason, so I don't end up tightening any, and I'd modded my footpeg bolts/ nuts to 10mm and HIGHLY recommend it. In fact the only problem we had (2 KLRs) was footpeg bolts on my pal's UN-modded '08, but welding fixed THAT for the rest of our trip.
Replaced my ORIGINAL chain (lubed EXCLUSIVELY w/ WD40) at 54,xxx kms in camp north of Whitehorse, YT, with a DID O-ring chain I carried just in case.
GREAT little adventure bike!
