Sorry to hear about your injuries, but glad to read of your good luck: you are recounting the tale, and there is no apparent permanent brain injury. I took a tumble on my dirt bike a couple of years ago, was out cold for about 10 minutes, no broken bones, but I still note some loss of short-term memory, although that could be age as well. At least I had a witness, so I was able to piece the events together pretty well even though I have no memory of the crash. Got a busted chin bar as a souvenir. Another buddy was not so lucky. He was found lying about 20 feet from his bike along a dirt road in NW Minnesota, unconscious for about a week, and aphasic for a couple of months after that. Ended up with a personality change that has made his wife a very unhappy woman.

Funny how that memory thing works in an accident. The human body never ceases to amaze. Trail riding in Michigan on a 700 firecat (snowmobile). The trail had steep 5 foot birms and I decided getting a little air might be fun. (yes - sober) The landing however was not as I intended and after my helmet hit the bar, my teeth put a 1/2" hole in my tongue and I lost about the three seconds or so of memory and only remember my body doing the log roll in the snow to a semi comfortable stop. I looked over and saw the sled coast to a nice stop - still on the trail - unharmed. Then I looked down and wondered why my right foot and ankle where in such a strange place. Tib and Fib broken cleanly as though I had a new knee joint 8 inches below the regular one, and what a concept- able to be bend in the opposite direction! Watched two more feet of snow fall outside the window of the hospital room in Hancock MI. A pin in my knee and 16 inches of titanium later, I was sent home with my wife. (still married lol) I had ridden sleds for 40 years and like to call myself and expert rider. So I guess it can happen - that is why they call them accidents. Thus far I have had good luck on the klr (12 years, and counting - 2 of them) Sometimes I want to know exactly what happened and wished I could have those 2.7 seconds of memory back. Then the permanently numb nerves in my right foot tells me not to bother. ride safe, todd in Chaska MN A16, 700efi

Sounds suspiciously like a UFO abduction to me...... The butt pain sounds a little like.... Nah, never mind...... Glad you're "ok". Don't make any decisions on riding yet. Wait until you've healed a little and feel better. I had a nasty crash back in '02 that left me in icu for a month and in rehab for 10 more, but I decided at three weeks that "yeah, damn right I'm getting back on". Craig I also had an incident with a deer two years ago. He hit me, I did not hit him . Ran right into the side of my bike. It was brand new 6 weeks old . I was only going about 40 MPH but I still broke an ankle with the bone sticking through the skin.I was off work 2 weeks (office job) . The day I got my cast off I was back on the bike. It had about $2,000.00 Damage . I fixed it myself . I did not have any collision Ins. and I don't think the Deer did either because he did not stop to see if I was OK. Let me know how the deer eradication goes and consider me in. I was 50 then. Ride safe be careful have fun. Lots of road rash, broken wrist, 12 weeks out of work. I bought a lightly used 2007 KLR (350 miles) this spring and started riding again. I really keep a sharp eye out for deer now. Anyone interested in starting a white tail eradication movement, let me know. Craig Kahler

Paul, I am not an insurance expert by any means, but I have had damage repaired on more than one occasion caused by a deer. It was not the collision part of my insurance but the comprehensive side of the policy. Some one else sing out if I got that all wrong.... You should look at your policy (car/bike/etc) and see what the additional cost of comprehensive is going to be. For me in the long run, it has more than paid for itself. revmaaatin.

Maybe the company is screwy ? Hit a deer and a black bear within a year of each other couple years back with my truck and did'nt even have to pay my deductable since it was wildlife. Covered under Comprehension I think Dooden A15 Green Ape

Wildlife is wildlife and in Michigan hitting them @#%@#% DEER we should also get paid extra in my opinion.... And for all you Tree Huggers out there... Go ahead take a ride through the U.P. of Michigan around dusk and feel free to go as fast as you want to die. Hitting an animal that has little to no brains, or at least a brain that does not know better than to run out in front of something bigger than itself moving at a high rate of speed is not an accident, it just happens and the insurance companies know that Dooden A15 Green Ape

Although I live in TX, which is supposed to be huge with white-tail hunting, I have never seen a deer while riding a motorcycle at dusk or night! Probably have not been in the area's where the deer live. Has anyone ever tried those gadgets for car's that are supposed to screen out some noise which the deer interprets as 'Don't f&&king move' or something like that? They must have something like that for bikes? Or is it junk crap?
