Can anyone tell me simple, easy, procedure on how to get the valve stem back in the rim hole once I change a tire? Is there a tool that I can fish into the stem, screw it in and then pull it throught the hole? Thanks Benny Screws [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Place your hand inside the tire. Push against the stem (and opposite side of tire) until the pain is unbearable. With a little luck the stem will find it's way to the hole before any blood is lost. I have never tried this, but it just popped into my head. Tie some thin wire around the stem. Feed it thru the hole before putting tube in tire. Once tube is in tire, maybe you could pull the stem toward the hole with the wire. Rick A17

Try making your own tool by tying or otherwise attaching a piece of wire/rope to an old valve core. Drop the tool through the hole, thread into the steam before inserting the tube into the tire and then pull the whole shebang through the hole. da Vermonster

The little nut that came on your tubes is for that purpose (install the tube, fit the stem thru the little hole in the rim, screw on the nut to KEEP IT FROM RETREATING BACK INTO THE "ABYSS"), so looks like you'll have to remove one side of the bead to recover the stem. Once you've got everything buttoned up, and the tire inflated, attach the valve cap and then BACK THE NUT UP TO THE CAP. That way, should your tire ever move on your rim, you should notice the 'cocked' stem which is your clue to deflate and move the tire till the stem is once again perpendicular. Otherwise (if it's tightened down onto the rim) the first notice you'll get that the tire has moved is when the valve stem area of your tube rips off, leaving you stranded UNLESS you have a spare tube. AIN'T NO FIXING THAT FLAT!!! Cheers, Ed

Benny, Tusk makes (or did make) a T-Handle cable 'tool' that screws into the valve stem (remove the valve stem core first) that has about 5inches of cable you insert through the rim, into the valve stem. You then fish the stem up through the hole. I love mine. Due care must be used so as not to pull to hard if the stem is not properly aligned as it could damage the tube/stem. If you were really handy, you could easily (cough) make one of these with a small bolt that you drilled N to S axis and put a cable strand through the hole with a loop on the end. I did a search at Rocky Mt. ATV for the Tusk tool, and it appears to be discontinued. revmaaatin.

In 1998 I made a dozen or so valve stem tools and gave them away to friends including Jake who made and sold some. Jake made his as a machinist would. They were a work of art. I did mine as a picture framer would. The tool it self is very simple and can be made for around $5. George Rancho Bernardo, CA
