I decided as soon as I lowered my new KLR (my inseam puts my a$$ way
too close to the ground for a stock KLR) that I wanted to modify the
sidestand for total flexibility from stock to quite lowered. I took a
3/4" by 3" B7 stud, drilled it its entire length with a 5/16" bit (to
keep the weight to a minimum) and then cut the stock sidestand and
welded a 3/4" jam nut on each of the two pieces left.The third jam nut
locks it at whatever height. I then added the 1" flat washer for a
bigger footprint. Photos are posted.It works great and is only ounces
heavier.

I imagine you could make a few bucks making similarly modified stands for other listers, starting with me. I installed raising links on my KLR so would want one that adjusted from stock to maybe an inch longer. How much would you charge to modify my stand for me? The only possible issue could be the extra weight toward the end of the stand. If you still have the safety engine cut out then make sure your side stand spring is good and strong. have to sell my klr, colorado
the time has come, i have to sell my 02 KLR, here are some details:
very babied, very clean, nicely farkled 2002 KLR650. This bike has 13,237 miles on it and has always been garaged, washed, and cared for. Of those 13K miles, I would say 95% are on paved road, with some gravel roads thrown in, never offroaded, almost always in dry CO climate.
Some of the updates include: doohickey has been updated, corbin flat seat (this thing is comfy), SW-motech center stand along with the factory side stand, GIVI tall wind screen, heated grips, modulated head light, GIVI top box rack (no box), exhaust can mod, Hi altitude jets as well as stock (stock is currently installed and runs great IMO), and im sure there are some I forgot. Tires maybe have 1000 miles on them, Maxxis 6001 dual sport tires, a good 50/50 tire. Battery is maybe 1 yr old as well.
This is one of the cleanest KLR s you will find, it just doesn t get ridden enough for me to justify keeping it, which I will probably regret. If you are looking for the tractorlike reliability with around the world support for the big trip you are planning, this is the bike for you.
