sargent klr seat?

Post by Dale Steele » Sat Jan 24, 2009 12:58 am

Wondering if anybody has some experience with this seat, as featured in the Feb. 09 Rider. I've been dragging my feet (so to speak) about checking out the Corbin options and now see this as a possible option. Do either of these ever show up used "butt" in good shape? Thanks, Dale [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Dale I purchased a used Corbin Flat seat for my 2002 KLR shortly after I bought it. The Corbin flat was good for street riding but had the effect of raising the height because it was wide. Since I ride the KLR mostly off road I didn't like the seat so I sent my stock seat to Sargent and had it reworked with their special foam, a new cover etc then sold the Corbin. If they'd of had the world seat available I'd have bought it in a minute. I have Sargent world seats on two other bikes and they are great. Much lighter and better quality than a Corbin seat. Good luck on finding a used one as most people who buy them wouldn't part with them. Doug ---------- At 07:32 AM 1/24/2009, you wrote:

I got one 3 months ago, about $100 off, used by not really, basically brand new. My OEM seat was ripped pretty good from a fall over in garage. I really like this seat, kind of hard compared to OEM, but really wide and supportive. I can position myself all over it, forward and backward. It is better than any Corbin I have ever seen, tried. They also offer 30 day money back Guaranty. IF Corbin tried that, they would go out of business (G). I am starting to like Sargent Seats, just got one for my R1200GSA. Always had Russell seats, which are by far the best, but didn't want their height and wings, on my GSA. The Sargent GSA seat is really fantastic, waterproof, and comforatable all day. This one on the KLR is working for all day rides too. I highly recommend.

Hey Dale, Last summer my son and I rode our KLRs from St. Paul, MN out to NW Montana. Then we rode down the CDR to the middle of Wyoming and then rode the asphalt back to St. Paul. I have a Russell Day Long Tour Saddle on my KLR. Not once on this 4,000+ mile journey did I have a sore butt, not even a hint of discomfort. I don't know how you could beat a Russell. ---------------- I think the Russell Day Long seat is the way to go for comfort. I have never read a bad review about them. Downsides may be 1) It may raise the stock seat height. 2) It is wider, does that effect your backroads riding? 3) Look at the KLR Russell seat on their web site. Does that seat looks like it belongs on a KLR? I would still consider buying one. I'm a comfort freak. It would be good to hear from other Russell saddle riders. Dennis

It sort of defeats the point of a DRZ, IMO, but on the other hand lets them tour in Mexico without complaint.

I have a Rick Mayer saddle. Custom made for me. Rode right into the saddle making shop last November. Rick said it was one of the tallest (if not the tallest) saddles he had ever built. I'm 6' 4" tall but I seem to be mostly legs. I have lowering brackets on my peg mounts, need bar risers (especially with the tall seat), and the KLR finally fits! Admittedly he was having a 650cc and less half price sale at the time but even at $425 it would have benna bargain compared to an off the shelf corbin at $350+ shipped. Do yourself a favor and visit http://www.rickmayercycle.com/. You'll (al least I am) glad you did. I just checked out Rick's site and the deal is still on! $229 for a custom made unit! Don't settle for an off-the-shelf seat. Buy a saddle! Steve Strader, Ukiah, CA '06 Greenie (of course) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

As they say at Russell; Beauty is in the eye of the buttholder. Although I have a Corbin on my KLR I have Russell's on my BMWs. After a trip to Key West and back on a stock BMW seat that we nicknamed the barbed wire seat my wife will not ride on anything but a Russell seat. When I buy a new(er) bike I budget for a Russell and order it immediately. They are not cheap. -- Bill Lewis Roanoke, Virginia Professor of Motorcycleology 2004 R1150RT 1990 R100RT 2002 KLR 1978 Oldwing w/Friendship 1
