I second the recommendation of the Wolfman explorer bag. I doubt the any other bag fits the KLR's sloped tank any better than the explorer. You would not believe all that you can fit in that bag with a little imaginative geometry. A couple of coats of waterproofing spray and there is no need for a rain cover. It is one of the more expensive tank bags out there but well worth the money. John A 17 R1100GS

I have got the 2003 Wolfman Explorer tank bag and I am very pleased with its performance. I use it daily. Where my bike goes, the tank bag goes. This bag is a very perfect fit for the KLR650. On a recent visit to Germany, I stopped at the Hein Gericke store in Munich and purchased a "Touareg" tankbag (for about $50) that was specifically marketed for the KLR 650. It has an expansion zipper to just about double the height and a zippered pocket on each side of the bag. The bag can be unzipped from the mounting system/soft plate (with protective foam between tank and bag) which has a cutout for the filler cap. Even partial unzipping of the zipper connecting bag and mounting base will provide access to the tank for refueling. Complete (360 degree) unzipping allows you to take the tankbag with you, again leaving the mounting base in place on the bike. There are two models available - one with strong magnets (a little more expensive), the other one (mine) fastened with straps. A well-fitting, sturdy rain cover is available for about $5. I don't know whether Hein Gericke sells that tankbag over here. The bag is small enough not to interfere with full lock handlebar turns nor with the front of the seat. Hans in Minneapolis

I use a Cycoactive Bar Pack rather than a tankbag, all I really need is a map holder. Less weight and less unsprung weight. :^) http://www.cycoactive.com/mc/bp3.html I use one on both KLRs. Conall http://www.klr650.cc

I have a Dual-Star tank bag that fits very nice and holds quite a bit of stuff. I've used it for several interstate trips in all sorts of weather. I bought the extra rain cover, which allowed me to store my cameras and other moisture sensitive stuff close by. Robin Dan wrote: I want to get a tank bag for my KLR 650. I second the recommendation of the Wolfman explorer bag. I third or fourth (which ever !!) the recommendation of the wolfman. I have had two of them and now need a third as I sold the bags with previous bikes I've owned. I had a wolfman on a 90 BMW Paris Dakar and on a Honda Transalp----perfect !! Now I've got to buy another one for my KLR !! It was too big for my BMW F650 if anybody is going to try that. Mark Sampson www.bigdogadventures.com

I have one more word about tankbags------the Kawasaki tankbag came with the purchase of my used KLR. It is minimal------pretty small----but I like the way it attatches to the bike which makes it very stable---no squirming around and protects the sides of the tank from chafing. They just should have made it bigger and had it go over the gas cap. I dont' recommend it---unless you just don't need the space. Mark Sampson www.bigdogadventures.com

I just put a Wolfman Explorer '03 on my KLR and like it. I had the Kawasaki tank bag previously and it isn't worth the time IMHO.
