question about wiring

Post by David Bell » Sat Oct 04, 2008 1:14 pm

My son in law works for a large defense contractor who installs spy listening devices in p-3's and big airliners for the military. He "accidentally" brought home some "environmental connectors". They are tiny aluminum sleeves with tiny plastic covers. You slide the cover on the wire, put the two wires to be spliced in the little aluminum sleeve, crimp both ends of it, slide over the plastic cover, and heat it with a bic lighter or a heat gun. It has melting glue in it and also is a heat shrink product. When the glue bubbles out the end which has now shrunk, it is sealed. They are strong and very compact. Lets just say I have a good supply of them. I also have an assortment of posilocks. They are great. Aerostich sells them now. I actually prefer to solder and use heat shrink. ----- Original Message ---- From: Jeff Saline To: davebbell@... If a guy wasn't good at soldering, or didn't want to solder, or wanted to be able to easily take the connection apart... I think he could use Posi-Lock connectors to join wires. http://www.posi-lock.com/index.html They are available at NAPA but look at the price tag before you buy. : ) I don't know if they'll sell you one at a time over the counter but it's worth asking about. I've used them in the military on a few special applications. I think I used a couple on either Martin's bike or my nephew's bike since some of the wiring was temporary. Temporary meaning I know it's gonna get changed in the next year or two as we add more stuff to the electrical system. Make sure you get the right size for the wire you're using.
