Hey guys, my wife just surprised me w/ a trip to the DR. Any ideas for places to rent bikes or places to do day rides on the island?

Indeed. The KLR is known for having weak rings. They can be worn out without looking rough or bad.

Valve seals would be my guess on that amount of oil too, given the symptoms he mentioned. Also, given that he already has it all apart, I'd go ahead and do the full job on it. Better to do it now than later, besides, it's an excuse to get a Schnitz Racing overbore kit into the beastie :-).

Good point. The balancer system is certainly not a strong point of the KLR, and if you already have things apart, checking it out would decidedly be a good idea...
