I have a magnetic bag made by Krawehl which has worked for me on a variety of bikes for over 10 years, but I believe it was purchased in the UK. albatross

I've been running a Small Marsee mag for the last year or so on my KLR. Now that I have the DL1000 I swap it between the two bikes. Makes it nice at gas stops where I don't have to play with straps. I also have a larger Marsee Mag bag for extended road trips so I can carry more STUFF ;^).. In the small one for local running I carry things like ear plugs, a rag or two, quicky tools, camera, gun, etc.

I haven't used a magnetic bag or other brands despite reviewing several before going with the Dual Star tank bag. http://www.dual-star.com/index2/Brand/K ... 650%20Tank% 20Bag.htm Now, I have the military (plastic) tank and Nerf bars which requires some modification of the bag's mounting straps and metal clips. With the stock gas tank, this bag works great without modification. However the Nerfs tubing and the plastic tank are much thicker (round) vs. the nice edge of the steal tank, so you have to modify the straps to make them work with setups other than stock. Not a big problem and I'd be happy to share my secrets of how to do this with anyone...just email me. The material, zippers and optional heavy duty rain cover are fantastic. I highly recommend this bag as it stays put, is easy to ride/maneauver with (even in difficult terrain) and is very functional (expands, compartmentalized, easy to use rain cover and map case). My tank bag has seen action from the rains in Alaska to abuses of the deserts of Death Valley to Baja to even snow in the Cascades. I can attest it's bombproof. I won't leave home without it.

I use the one from JCWhitney. Unless you need one tall enough to sleep on, it works fine and is a lot cheaper than some of the name brand ones. Mine was $40.00.

Keith-- I have the tourmaster tri-bag (which is more like two bags for one price, since no one in their right mind would zip the thing together into the skyscraper behemoth as designed). I've found that to stay in place on bad roads I needed to rig some little straps at the rear, otherwise (even with the safety up front) it would shimmy around (and off). I don't use a tankbag on trails, but extended dirt roads caused this problem. I have no experience with other magnetic bags. Luke --- hobbhavnklr650 wrote:

Keith, I have a TEKNIC bag that's about 8" high at the part nearest the rider, and angles to about 4" at the front, so it matches the KLR tank's angle. Has a map pocket and it WILL expand to big enough to carry 24 cans of beer (I'm told...), and holds a lot when not expanded. Magnets and a strap that goes around the steering head hold it very well, and the angle makes it SUPER for KLRs! I bought a well-used one several years ago, and like it so much that when "Cycle Gear" was selling out the last ones (they said it's been discontinued) I ordered one (about $40) and HIGHLY recommend it IF you can find one! Stay away from Cortech, I bought one for $125, Zipper Blew in less than 100 miles. Took it back for replacement, zipper blew again after just a couple months, dealer refused to replace 2nd one, numerous emails to Cortech unanswered they are on my s**t list. Nothing I hate more than a manufacturer that does not stand behind the company with such an obvious defect. There all about the same, just buy the right size. The zippers will fail, at which time just use zip ties to keep the sides closed and leave the "mouth open" facing up.
