Lots of interesting info?? here, but isn't the mileage more influenced
by wind resistance than weight (to a certain point that is)?

I had a Supertrapp; Sounded better but I had to wear earplugs. It
might have given 1 or 2 more hp. But, the Supertrapp needed more
maintenance. I sold it and am back to stock. With a stock exhaust you
need to put anti-seize on everything except the things you want to put
locktite on like the clamps and hanger nuts and bolts. THEN YOU MUST
SPLIT THE PERFORATED PIPE BY HAMMERING IN A LARGE SCREWDRIVER TO GET
RID OF THAT DAMN AIRCOOLED VW TWEETY SOUND. Then you can pretty much
forget about it.

I read somewhere the stock muffler weighs 11 lbs. I'd have thought more, but no matter. What does the Supertrapp weigh? Over the winter, I shed 17 lbs. of ugly fat. (Noo, I didn't cut off my head.) If that made the KLR any faster, I can't detect it, while my gas mileage is definitely off. But the aircooled VW Tweety sound so goes with the VW Horn sound

Hey folks, was reading about the "after market pipe" and thought I would give some thoughts I had after installing my Super Trapp. I always try not to upset the neighbors with loud noises coming from my cycles mufflers. So after installing it on my A13 I took it out for a test run and really noticed how much louder it was over the stock muffler. Didn't really seem to run any different. So, not to upset the old neighbors I have, I had my friend ride past me with it , up and down my road and see just how loud it really was. Well, it really wasn't that loud. I liked that. But what I really liked was that it had a nice sound. Back in the sixtys and seventys people would put "Cherry Bomb Mufflers" on their cars. Those mufflers always had a certain sound that you new what it was. And that's what it reminded me of. So I decided to leave it as is and enjoy it. If I had to replace it, it would be with another Super Trapp. The stock muffler is so much
heavier it would not have gone back on for any reason. I don't know if it gets better gas millage or not because my A13 has always got great gas mileage anyway.I didn't do any rejetting with it. Thanks

Personally, I think the debate and banter is extremely healthy and
helpful. I don't feel insulted nor am trying to insult--rather have
some fun with the topic as we debate something we're passionate
about, have vested-interests in, etc. Again, if someone wants to
guide me to EXACTLY where the research shows "our tests proved we got
X-mpg improvement with this exhaust/setup, etc...under these
condition...," I'd be happy to learn more and post less. The bottom-
line is no one can show me scientific proof mpg improved. Sorry, "I
made the change and my mpg went from 47 to 51" isn't acceptable proof
for me. HP output? Yes, you can increase jet sizes and even run NO2
and give you some mind-numbing figures. But again the focus was on
increasing MPG to the point the buyer would recoup his expense from
better fuel economy.
Looking at the pipes on the market (I don't know them all), but it
appears $400 with shipping and jets (figure your time, too) is a
reasonable expectation in upfront cost. But this isn't it. You have
to look at lifecycle cost which includes maintenance like repacking
baffles (time and materials) and performance (louder) as you approach
service limits. If you go with something like Big Gun (mechanical
baffles, you'll pay over $500 upfront but exclude maintenance and
most notably USFS-approved componentry).
Now, I didn't read anywhere that Fred requires frequent, periodic
group hugs. Of coursee, I respect vendors' willingness to provide
education, test results, features, etc., but unfortunately some
people abuse the open mind and ears...which on another topic (check
your email/spam) leaves many hoping for that 18-inch elephant wand
and completely empty pockets.
People have opinions and should feel free to voice them without
insults or worry about being policed. I've read hilarious posts and
banter from this group which honestly keeps me coming back. That and
peoples' genuine desire to help enthusiasts in many ways. I've been
insulted on this board many times but never take offense to it. Most
of the time it's from unhappy people or those not strong enough or
willing to accept we're all just little organisms scrutinized by
nature and its laws.

How many discs are you all running in the supertrapp? Mine still seems rich. How much should I turn the screw out? I think it has a stage 1 jet kit by dynojet

Something that hasn't been mentioned is,That with one blip of the throttle
one can get the attention of cager asleep at the wheel.
It took me all of about 2 seconds when I started mine at the dealer,
To say to myself , This p.o.s muffler has to go.
Went right the parts counter and ordered a new one.
And furthermore those of you who like the sound of stock
muffler, I'll sell you mine with less than 100 miles on it
for 500.00 bucks. I'll send it when the check clears the bank.

My prediction: there will be a lot of different answers to this question. This is the one you can take to the bank. ooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooo ooooooo What you can take to the bank is that just by the significant weight savings from getting rid of that stock boat anchor of an exhaust, you will increase your gas mileage and performance. ed A17 ************ **It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. All I need to see is 40.00 RWHP out of an otherwise bone stock KLR650 with just pipe and carb mods. Should have a "before" dyno run reflecting ~ 36HP, an "after" reflecting 40.000 HP or more takes the cashish. As always, pencil drawn charts not allowed. Thanks CA Stu A13 PS I've had that $50 up for grabs for about what, 8 or 9 years now?
