had done the rear about a month ago, and did the front last night. I
can tell you this-I couldn't have got the front axle nut loose without
a long 1/2 breaker bar.
I carry the little stamped steel axle wrench I bought from Fred. Front or back wheel, on or off, daytime or night, at home or (on one occasion) in a rainy parking lot in Montenegro: fit it on the axle nut and stomp. If it doesn't move, stomp harder. I cannot imagine the situation in which this would not work, but I suppose in that case I'd whack it sharply with a hammer (in the garage) or rock (in the field). No breaker bar, no giant socket.
Hope that helps.
