strange noise coming from engine, need help
Did you change to a foam air filter? When I changed from an enclosed air filter to two pod-type uni foam filters on my old 500 CC Honda, it surprised me how much more intake noise I could hear. Kind of a stacato "Blaaaaaat!" sound under acceleration.
(Don't ya just looove the flash backs to old comic book sound effects!)

This is a different noise. I am talking about a solid engine noise that
only happens under hard acceleration. Kind of like a chopping noise, it
doesn't sound good.
I have an upgraded doo.
It is not that something is loose, it is similar to the noise an engine
makes when lugging, but higher pitched.
Any other suggestions? ???

strange noise coming from engine, need help
I had the same sound on mine after picking it up the dealership.
also had the rear tire hitting the swingerarm due to overtighten
chain.
sounds like it is possible drive train issue.

I'm stumped by the fact that it only happens under load, not when in neutral.. I hope to peek inside tomorrow or Sunday. ( This was years ago; anybody remember Mariola s friend Adam ? ) Anyway..some of us advised a simple balancer chain adjustment; we performed the procedure and the noise was gone. Obviously this will only work if the doo and spring are sound but hey...they might be. Do that first. Bogdan On 6/19/08 4:02 PM, "Hedrek" wrote: > > > > I have something similar going on. valve shim question
I have just finished checking and adjusting the valves on my wife's 05
and my 06. Last time I checked and adjusted them was about 12,000
miles ago, before our last trip to Mexico/Central America. On my bike,
I found both exhaust valves were tight. On my wife's bike, and I will
assume operator error from the previous adjust, one of her intake's
was reading at .010 and loose spec is .008. So I actually had to put a
fatter shim in to get it into spec. Interestingly enough, she says
the bike starts and runs better than it has for the last year and a half.
I bought a set of shims from Fred at Arrowhead because I found both
bikes to require different sets of shims depending on which valve
needs adjustment. And I keep the set full because with two bikes I
never know which shim will be required.
