I am also considering the ones from Enduro Engineering, do you know how well they fit the stock bars? Steve a-19 98 CR500 --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Gabe" wrote:

These are just the Moose handguards, and the answer is, "not well". The inboard tip must be bent outwards a bit, and the outboard tip must be twisted a bit, in order to make it fit. However, once you do get them bent to fit (the twist is *hard*!), they're quite sturdy. Some people say they don't have enough room for their controls, but if you cut off the balls at the tips of the controls with a hacksaw and file the tip smooth so it won't snag you, they seem to fit okay. Enduro Engineering's brush guards are pretty trick, though. You'll have to trim the right one a bit to clear the brake, but that's easy enough to do with a pair of tin snips. If you're going to drill holes in the handguards to mount brush guards, here's a tip. First, use a nail or punch to punch a small hole. Then, use a small drillbit to drill a small hole about an eighth of an inch deep. Then, and only then, are you ready to drill the full-sized hole that you're either going to tap or use a self-tapping screw in. Unless you have a drill press, of course, in which case you just clamp it down, line up your hole, start up the drill, and crank it down... sigh, maybe someday. -E

I just got a set and I've had no problems so far............I'm mounting them on a set of Pro-Taper fat aluminium (for CAStu) bars. I just don't have the new bars and guards mounted on the bike yet. Buddy bseifert71@...

This is great info, thanks! I am not so keen on "making" the Moose bars fit so the Maier Delux Woods Pro will be my choice. Based on info in the achive Maier's fit out of the box:-) Steve a-19 98CR500 --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Eric L. Green" wrote:

That's not what I hear about the Maiers. With the stock bars, they need tweaking too. Just ask Barney (who's hanging around here somewhere, and managed to snap one of his Maiers in two whilst attempting to tweak it). The Maiers are, however, supposedly a bit more spacious than the EE/Moose handguards, which would be a tight fit with heavy gloves. It's been a while since I've seen the Maiers, so I can't tell you for sure. -E

The Tusk handguards from Rocky Mountain ATV www.rockymountainatv.com fit pretty good, they have a nice adjustable mount and are reasonably priced at $50.

They fit well and are well made. Kurt [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

The Tusk barkbusters were $22 and the Maier handgaurds were $22 when I put them on about 1.5 years ago. Best $44 I have spent on the KLR. Makes the bars and levers almost bulletproof. Without a doubt those would be the first options I would put on a new KLR.

Yep, that was me. :) My handguards are MSR, which are the same as the Enduro Engineering guards. I bought them from Happy Trails. The mistake I made was clamping the guard in my vise right over the bolt hole at the end of the guard -- the weakest point! Once I broke it, it seemed obvious that that was a bad idea. But last night I finally got around to trying again and the bending went just fine. Good Luck. -Matt in Boise

Mike, I put a set of EMGO guards on my KLR, and they look identical to ACERBIS ones on a friend's KLR, only MUCH cheaper! Ed
