Late for this party. Here are pictures of the $44 Tusk/Maier combo at work or is it rest? http://langly.smugmug.com/photos/4351545-M.jpg http://langly.smugmug.com/photos/4351549-M.jpg>I am looking to put some handguards on my bike. I'm looking to get a set of handguards for my KLR both to protect my
hands/controls off road and to cut the wind on-road. I've got stock
bars right now.
Any suggestions as to the best cost/performance guards?
Thanks

Personally, I like Barkbusters with Acerbis plastic
handguards over them. It's been at least 20 years
since I installed a set - I guess Barkbusters (or
look-alikes) are still available.

I like my ugly but tough Maier guards with the 'EXC' extended coverage
deflectors. Tough, great protection, and excellent weather protection
too.

I bought EMGO guards, plastic with an aluminum core for around $60 Cdn,
and they ALMOST match the color of my A18. A little tight when I wear 'winter'
gloves, but OK w/ light weight ones.

I'm thinking of buying a set of Acerbis rally pro handguards. Does
anyone have these and have any comments?
Where can I get them at a reasonable price? The cheapest ones I've
found so far are on ebay for $70. Anyone know of a cheaper source.
Thanks, Mike

I have them on a couple of bikes. The aluminum bars seem to be softer than other handguards. They can deform enough to foul the levers, and need to be bent straight from time to time. I have also lost plastic in some impacts on my dirt bike, not enough to impair the function, but you would think a $60 handguard would take a hit better. Yes, $60 or so is what I paid at my local accessory house, plus $22 for the spoilers. I like the way they look, but I'd go with something else next time.> I'm thinking of buying a set of Acerbis rally pro handguards. I am in the market for some as well, and haven't heard good things
about the Acerbis. I'm looking at Enduro Engineering. Check it out:

My buddy has some made by Moose Racing. I have seen his bike down a
few of times, and never a ding in those...
Good luck,
Gabe

Don't have them, but have seen them, and not been impressed. For the price, they are quite flimsy. Tusks or Maiers or even Moose may need to be bent to (sorta) fit the KLR's steel bars, but they're a heckuva lot tougher than the Rally Pro. -E> I'm thinking of buying a set of Acerbis rally pro handguards.
