Hello, I just purchased a used KLR and it has a few items wrong and I need some good answers to if anybody has any. First it came with a bunch of stickers stuck on the winshield. I almost managed to scrape them off with my finger nails, as not to not damage the plastic with a knife or razor. My question is how to get the sticky glue off left behind without damaging the plastic. Anyone been through this before? Thanks, Doug.

First I peal, then I try hot soapy water and soak, then alcohol and finally car wax. I'll admit that I've ruined a couple things, but the glue can be nasty. I had some duct tape on my shield for a winter project and the glue actually ate into the plastic, ruining the shield (which is now painted).

WD-40 cuts many decal adhesives. Have never tried it on a clear surface, but it works well on painted surfaces and plastics in general. Try some Goo Gone. If you can't find it locally you can get it from amazon.com. Chuck C San Diego, CA

Mayonnaise is the best thing I have used for bugs, tar, sticker goo. Just smear it on the spot and leave it for an hour or more. Use a terry cloth and rub the mess off. Won't hurt any paints or plastics. Shane

Lighter fluid will melt just about any glued label. I do not know what it will do to Plexiglas so I would check it out on a section under the colored cowl on the bow of your bike. Capt. Turtle Wax (liquid)is actually pretty good at getting gunk like that off also, at least in what I found. Dooden A15 Green Ape --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Peplinski" wrote:

stalling

Post by Jacobus De Bruyn » Thu Apr 03, 2008 8:44 pm

Today I took a ride on the beach, along the waterline. Bike and me got pretty soaked sometimes by the salt spray. After about half an hour there was a bigger splash, and the bike stalled. No use trying to push this thing in the wet sand. You can only push the KLR downhill. If you re strong. I put one of my rubber boots under the side stand, and drained the carb. After ten minutes the good old bike started again, but stalled when I put it in first. After a few tries, it started again, and I could get off the beach. Maybe I should have waited for the high tide. What my experienced friends, could be the cause of stalling in the waterspray? I did the T-mod. I suspect the sidestand switcho. Sice I am an old salt, I expect my bike to be one too. No worry, I washed it, oiled it, sprayed it, manicured and combed it, it is resting happily in the stable. Why does 4000 revs in first gear sounds so much worse than 4000 in the other gears? Sometimes one can get confused about which gear one is in, and that can be pretty inconvenient when trying to cross a busy highway, and you are in third gear instead of in first. Usually I can avoid stalling by a quick clutch response. I always have one finger on the levers. As for running on the beach, it is not quite the bike for it, a bit on the heavy side. This is a bike for grown-ups, it looks I am not ready for that yet. Jacostarica. ____________________________________________________________________________________ You rock.
