Hi Ron, I just got the highest windshield rifle makes------it is a 13 inch. I am 5'11" and it is almost to tall------so I bet it would be just right for you !! It is nice and well made. It is too much to use for offroad use. I will take it off when I go to Arizona next week for 2 weeks of offroading and backroading. I think it might destroy itself if the bike is bounced around severely. It's an easy switch to change them back and forth----about 5 minutes. Mark Sampson www.bigdogadventures.com

I've got the tall windshield from Dual Star which is 4" taller than stock. I'm about 6', and at highway speeds the wind still buffets the top of my noggin pretty good. If I duck down just a bit, it's much quieter and calmer. With the stock windshield, it seemed like the wind blast caught me right in the chest. So while 4" taller is a huge improvement, I'm thinking a windshield about 6" taller than stock would be ideal for highway cruising. I guess it's sort of a tradeoff - how comfortable you want it compared to how gangly you're willing to make it. Sincerely, Jim Hubbard

I have the puny +4 Kawa version on my KLR. And a big ole 19in Rifle on the Concours. In my personal opinion, the windshield will hold up fine from vibration and wind, etc. More likely, you'll bonk your helmet, face, neck, chest on the sharp edge of that tall windshield -if you do much off roading. How do I know? Let's just say I was damn glad to be wearing goggles with the MX lid. Need to figure out one of them lectric power windshield things for the KLR, just like the big boys on the bimmers. Down for off-road, and up for the trip home. Mark A9, and A1 ratbike.

Ron, I too am 6-4 and I bought the Kawasaki 4" incher and it is NOT good enough as the WIND gets redirected RIGHT in to my eyes so much so that at 40 MPH and no Glasses and open face helmet I am all but blind form my eyes being blown around. I was going to go at least another 4 inches (total of 8 but will prob go with an experiential bolt on piece of 1/4 plywood and try different sizes as I only want enough to th do the job and no more and the 6 Inc her might do it or so might the 8 and for sure th e10 will so I am going to SOME DAY try all three IF yuh get one sooner then a few months I would love TO know how it works out for you.. Do you use a full face Helmet or an open face? ===== Thanks Have a Great day. Chuck

I've often wondered about this myself. But I don't think total height is the correct measurement. I'm 6'. I've seen people several inches taller than me with shorter legs. In other words, I've got long legs and a short torso. So a windshield that fits someone 5'8" might be perfect for my overall 6' height. I believe that in order to get the correct windshield you need to be measured sitiing on the bike and have someone measure along your backside from the seat to the top of your helmet. Arm length would also come in to play I suppose. You would think some of these manufacturer's web sites would have some sort of a conversion chart, but I've yet to find one. If anyone knows of one please let me know. Also, in your search for windshields, don't overlook the Cee Bailey's offered on E-Bay. Cee-Bailey's also has a web site. Matt

I have to say that my experience with Cee Bailey's hasn't been very positive so far. They took 22 days to get me my +10 shield (their eBay listings claim that all orders are shipped out in 10 days), and only actually manufactured it after I called to ask where it was about two weeks after the order. They also made excuses, claiming I'd ordered it on the 14th when I had a PayPal receipt from the 12th. When the shield arrived, it didn't fit the bike -- in fact, the holes drilled in it didn't even match the pattern marked on the protective coating, and using two different Kawasaki shields as patterns it was easy to see that *neither* the pattern they'd marked on the coating nor the actual holes drilled in the shield were right -- one of the holes and one of the edge notches were off by more than 1/2cm. I've sent them email, to which they haven't responded so far -- but it's only been a day (though if I screwed up like this in _my_ business, you'd better believe I'd answer the customer's email ASAP!). I hope they'll make things right, but at this point I have to say I have some serious questions about their business practices and about the quality of their work. Any Q/C at *all* should have detected that there was something wrong with my shield before it left the factory, since it didn't even match the pattern marked on the protective coating... and the long shipping delay with no notice did not please me, either. FWIW the shield is made of very heavy 1/4" acrylic and would be a beautiful piece of work *if* it fit right. Sigh. Thor

The owner of Cee Bailey's called me last fall, pumping me for all sorts of information on the KLR and promising a "big order". As of this date this order has not arrived here. I feel like I have been used. Such is the life of a parts retailer. :-/ Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/cmc.html

[...] Well, I just gave up waiting for them to promptly answer my email and called them. When confronted with an outraged customer on the phone they were at least suitably polite and repentant. They say I'll have a new shield by Tuesday at the latest and are sending a prepaid air label to ship the old one back. The person I spoke to ("Chris", who seems to be in charge of their motorcycle plastics business) said that they actually had a number of bad shields out of the manufacturing run mine came from, and that nobody was willing to own up to it but that clearly "someone had a very bad day in the shop". Of course the point of Q/C is to *catch* "bad days in the shop" but I didn't feel like belaboring the issue. I can think of one or two "bad days in the shop" I've had in the last few months... can't we all? I still am just not very impressed by their organization nor their quality control but if they get the new shield to me in time and it fits, ultimately I guess I'll be pleased by the product. And it certainly is cheap. I'll let you all know how the new shield fits when it gets here early next week. Anyway, I'd strongly advise dealing with them by phone rather than eBay or email; they seem much more responsive that way. Thor

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I bought a used one off the KLR Dreambook site. It's a Cee Bailey's +6". It fit fine and seems to work for me. So if you can deal with the company's lack of business sense and don't run into a bad production batch, they're a very nice shield. Ira Agins Santa Fe, NM A16
