I want to put a low mount front fender on my KLR.Many years ago you
could buy aftermarket fiberglass fenders that you could hose clamp
to the fork legs.I can't find anywhere.Need suggestions thanks.

JCW sells the Maier ABS plastic fender you describe for $25. I have one on my KLR, and another on my XT500. A couple of sellers on Ebay offer fiberglass fenders. One of the seller's ID is 1Hotwing. Try an Ebay search for "cafe racer" Eric Stevens Mechanicsburg, Pa> could buy aftermarket fiberglass fenders that you could hose clamp > to the fork legs.I can't find anywhere.Need suggestions thanks.

Looking for an easy way to lower the front fender to within 3 or 4
inches of the tire. Anybody know of bolt on aftermarket parts for this.
I can modify or whatever, just don't want to start from scratch making
parts.
thx Joe

I don't, but plan on major effort. You can't simply lower the fender
with a longer mount because it'll smash into the wheel. You have to
mount it near the top of the receiver fork tube (where the bottom of
the black shock cover attaches) which mean fabricating a fork clamp.
I'd be curious to understand why you want to do this b/c I don't see
anything to gain here but more to lose including (if close enough)
turbulence in the gap with disruptable air flow (3 to 4 inches) to
potentially more torque/instability with wind buffeting.
Now the KLR fender is plastic and not an issue in the case I'm about to
describe, but I actually broke a collar bone in a freak accident in
Asia when riding a local moto with minimal fender-to-tire fixed
clearance (vs. KLR fender to tire is variable). A rock wedged
tire/fender and took me down...hard. I wasn't going fast luckily but
it wash my front tire in a bad way and gave me this odd Bavarian
pretzel thing sticking up...not to mention pain. It ripped-off the
rivet/mount on one side of the fork but the other held causing the lock-
up. Needless to say, you'll never find me adventure riding any moto
with a metal fender that close...ever again.
Cheers - Brian

Joe,
Another fender lowering alternative is to use a K9 forkbrace (to some,
heresey) available from Fred, HT or EagleMike. Mike has 'em predrilled and
yuo can easily mount your existing or a KTM motard fender underneath. It
works on my '99 with an 18" front laced up or my '06 with the stock 21".
Depending on the tire you select, you may have to extend the standoffs for
the crossbrace by 5 or so mm.
I can send some pics if you want. send me your email addy and I'll get
them to you.
Best of luck with your project.
Buddy

Try a stock KTM fender. Works great on the highway, looks awesome,
costs a bit over $20. Had mine on for about 4 months with no problems
with heat or stability. Much better in cross winds. They come in
silver, which looks better than the stocker (green). All I had to do is
make the mountinig h oles a bitk larger with a file. 10 minute job.

Great pics... wonder if the improvement in handling is from the fender
or the low mount acting as a fork brace..
albatross
(just wondering)
