The moving map GPS's have spoiled me over the last 8 years.
Especially my newest the Garmin 167 < think that's right. But ran
many years with the Garmin 3 and still miss the easier mounting of
it on my bikes vs the larger 167. But love the added info on the
small roads and stuff that fit into my 64 chip.
Thanks for the tip on the back of the used roll chart Pat. Now, where
am I gonna mount that old roll chart holder on the KLR and mainly
R1150gsa for extended highway journeys.
.. But can see where it
would be good for just writing down the propose route on it for the
day. I once met a guy on a BMW that would write this info down
with erasealbe mark a lot on his windshield ever morning.

I just a new Garmin76c with a tech mount and I would like to know your
opinion about the electrical connection .
--better direct from the battery
--from the headlight source of power
--from the fuse box( I still need to install it)
I am going to use the KLR for a trip arround the world on and off road
so the connection need to be good??

I just tapped into one of the "empty" citylight connections inside the
fairing and have had no problems. The Touratech mount vibrates the
crap out of the 4 AA batteries in my Garmin 196 GPS and kills the
batteries so when I shut the key off the GPS cuts out. This may be a
reason you may want to go direct to a non switched source.

I prefer leaving the batteries out of the GPS and connecting in to the bike from a source that is "HOT" all the time. Restarting your GPS everytime you turn your bike off is a pain. On my KLR---I tapped into a wire that went into the ignition switch that was hot all the time. Don't remember which one or what color. I just probed with a sharp tester and found one. Some go to the battery--I wanting something closer to the GPS. There is no need to be of concern about the load, as a GPS pulls about as much of a load as clock. You can even leave them on overnight with no worries. I used the unused city light wires for my heated grips, as it is a switched wire. This is good. Hello , any one know about the Garmin Quest ? Is it good because I had one as a gift and I'm getting it on my KLR or should I buy something else ?.

Garmin Quest work well with the RAM mount on the KLR. I've used it for
more than a year. Sometimes in heavy vibration and in downpour
conditions.

I am very happy with my Quest both on and off my KLR. I didn't like the
available mounts so I made one:

Which of these two is the best choice?
TomTom One

Garmon

I have been told that the TomTom One is very easy to use. That is certainly a plus for me.

IMO no comparison, the Garmin is waterproof for motorcycles and has the best
maps/support.

Yes, that was a very clarifying short statement from
Fred. But I remember measuring the clearance under
the skidplate, and I thought it was the same as stock,
but I didn t measure it before. Also the side stand
was working ok for me after lowering.
I understand that the angle of the swing arm changes,
so the whole thing sags a bit to the ground. At the
moment I am pampering the beast, and putting the
plastics and skidplate back on. Eight o clock in the
morning, I had to take a coffee break in the airco, it
is sweltering outside. The sweat is drying now, so
I ll have another go.
I thought it was funny that someone mistook the
chaintensioner bolt for a steam pressure relief valve.
Makes me think, instead of a diesel KLR, a steam KLR?
Could drag the boiler behind you in a small cart.
Instead of gasoline, one could use woodchips, coal,
heavy fuel oil or wodka. Have a nice day. Jacostarica.
