Last time I looked, their sprockets were listed in the Chapparral catalog. I don't think the price was all that bad, and they went up to 73 (!) tooth. KLR650T trials edition, anyone? C -- Dr. J. I want to gear down my '93 A7. What's the collectives experience with this ? I'd prefer to drop a tooth up front than add in the rear (cheaper, quicker and perhaps no need to add links). I'm riding mostly trails and logging roads and just don't need that 5th gear at all. I'd like to run more in 2nd and 3rd but find myself needing gear "1.5" most of the time. TIA Ric Merry PS: What was the old rule of thumb for sprockets ? 1 tooth on front sprocket = 6 teeth on rear ?

Hey all, I can't afford another bike for a while - darn those hi tech lay offs - and I want to mod the KLR to do streets better cause I ain't doin' the dirt no more!! As soon as I can I'm buying the ZRX. Has anyone done 16 & 41 sprockets? Are there greater extremes? And how does that affect the chain? Does it affect anything else? Thanks, Frosty

I'm new to this list and I'm sure this question has been asked a hundred times but where can I find a 13 tooth and 16 tooth sprocket. Oh and if there is anyone in west Mi wanting to ride let me know.

I do not think there is a 13t that will fit the KLR. 14T, 15T and 16T is about it. I orderd my 14T/45T from http://www.sprocketspecialists.com/ I thought the prices were fine. And surely you mean West Trollville, cause I know anybody from da UP would have said "da westurn U.P. eh". Dooden

I believe Zack had a 13t sprocket on his KLR for last year's Meteor D/S ride. Don't know where he got it. Devon dooden wrote:

In the final drive section in Big chee's faQ sheet he mentions a 13t for the 650 klr. I'd like to know if there is anybody out there with a 16t and what they think of it. Like rpm at 60mph on the kawa speedo (I know they are less then accurate). Gas mpg and difference in power. Thanks,Trails

I'm currently running a 16t, primarily in commuter mode. It makes fast freeway running more relaxed, but IMO degrades performance in every other respect: Low is too tall for all but the easiest trails. Top gear roll-on is lethargic. The bike may be faster in 4th than 5th. 60 indicated (a speed I rarely ride at) is probably around 4000rpm. There may still be a place for the 16t on a long road trip, if you carry a 14t and the tools to swap sprockets. In general, I think the 15t is a better all-around gear.
