I don't understand why you're riding with Kenda 270s ? Do you also have one in the rear ? When I rode with them front and rear I sure didn't corner hard on pavement. I now have a Gripster up front and a 270 in the rear. It does improve braking and pavement handling but this is a compromise that doesn't equal two Gripsters on the street. front tire wear
The k270 gets pretty good reviews on the site for an 80/20 rider and for the
20 bucks I paid it was worth a try. It really corners just fine-I can easily
drag the pegs with no fear of wipeout. The noise and strange tread wear
bother me though. Spending $60 or $70 for a street oriented front may be a
good investment in riding pleasure. I'm running a K 761 rear and like it
just fine. The Gripster rear I had on before really disappointed. The tire
only lasted about 4000 miles and was not real satisfying.

I think it is typical for knobbies to wear like that when they see a lot of pavement. A lot of street tires will cup out too, especially if they are underinflated. I don't really know how tire pressure affects knobbies; I would think low pressures make it worse, but some think it is exacerbated by higher pressures. That's proof positive that you're a sporting even aggressive rider, Mike. I normally get between 6k and 7k miles on a rear Slipster. Some guys get 10k. Bogdan, who's also on a futile quest to find the perfect tire> only lasted about 4000 miles and was not real satisfying. >

Normal...
Braking forces flex the knobs over and wear down the leading edge of
each tread block. Any tire with any pretentions of going off-pavement
will do this to some extent.
If it were a $60 tire, I'd suggest reversing it. It's a $20 Kenda, so
I'd just toss it.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks for all the feedback. I thought it was just me.
Just because you're paranoid doesn' t mean they aren't out to get you.

front tire wear
The staggered center lugs on my IRC GP110 have been wearing unevenly.
The trailing edge of each lug is worn at least 1/8" lower than the
leading edge. It may be my imagination but the wheel seems to be
bouncing around more than normal on turns in gravel or rough paving.
There's 7000 miles on it and probably a few more K to go if it weren't
for this wear problem. Is this typical for the front tire of this
type? BTW, it's mounted as recommended by the mfgr. Dave

Cupping is pretty common on motorcycles. To some, it means that you are
riding the bike correctly
My KLR front tire is worn the same way. I also have the same sort of uneven
wear on my ZRX-1200.
The most common causes are underinflation and using the front brake
excessively. Although most riders see the KLR front brake as weak (it is,
compared to other bikes), I am a lightweight and usually am carrying only a
couple of pounds (if any) baggage.
... And I do most of my braking with the front. A lot of times, that's the
only brake that I am using. That also runs counter to what is taught to be
safe braking, but with 35 years riding experience, I feel comfortable enough
to be using only the front brake when I conditions allow it. I am fully
capable of hitting both brakes hard when necessary.

If not mistaken... the GP-110 is the same looking tire as the Kenda
K270, and the last K270 I had was also worn as you describe, however
mine got the point I had about 1/4" of rubber on the one end og the
knobs and well nothing on the other side.
Could try removing the tire and remounting the other way, just so it
wears a little better.
Remember the front gets braking action, the rear gets braking and power
rotating the wear the other way also.

My front GP110 has over 4k miles on it and is just starting to show
some uneven wear. I mounted it backwards per the FAQ and use the
brakes pretty hard. It should wear out about the same time as the
second rear that I put on recently. I'd say 7k is doing pretty good if
you still have good tread left. I should get around 8k out of mine.
The MT21 on my DR-Z has some real crazy wear patterns, but I tend to
keep the pressure pretty low for my runs up to the local fire roads.
