Post by cristian_njimenez » Mon Jul 09, 2007 11:56 am

I have an ims six gallon tank on my 650. I want to know weather the wolfman explorer or explore lite will fit due to the gas cap and breather hose. If any one has this set up your knowledge would be highly appreciated, also will i need to purchase the mounting kit regard cristian pdx oregon

Yep, that same setup works fine for me and I haven't even had the chance to find a 90-degree adaptor for the gas cap's breather hose nipple. One of these days I'll find one and install it, but it hasn't caused any problems so far, even when doing several hours of first and second gear dirt work in 90 degree heat. -- Blake Sobiloff http://sobiloff.typepad.com/blakeblog/> San Jose, CA (USA) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

air scoop for my ims 6.5 (pic posted)

After I installed my new IMS 6.5 gallon tank I needed a way to fill the huge gap between the tank and the radiator,so I Jethroed up an air scoop.I have had the air scoop idea ever since I first saw the mod that fills the gap between the factory shroud and rad filled with a piece of waterhose. However I never needed more cooling until now.Yesterday I had a cooling issue with the 05 KLR on I-95 in 98 degree heat. The KLR spit the factory shroud, mounting hardware off and the shroud was hanging there with only the bolt on top of the tank hoding it on.It was laying against the PD Nerf bar and would not fall off so I did not worry about it until i noticed the bike started running hotter than usual.I put two and two together and realized that the shroud scooped air onto the rad.The rad fan kept coming on and going off...coming on and going off. I got tired of that so I pulled off the interstate and did some road side repar work which included a make shift cardboard air scoop. When I got home from my 3000+ mile road trip, the IMS tank that I had ordered for the trip was waiting for me. What a pain it was to put that IMS tank on, and I did not even mount the brackets on the front of the tank.If you ever put an IMS tank on your bike....first thing to do is to throw the directions in the garbage can. Anyway...when I saw that big gap I knew I would have a cooling issue in this heat so I Jethroed up the air scoop. Unfortunately the only color pastic I had was Purple/Pink. Soon the sun will fade my red body work and it will match.Until then ...or unless I find some black plastic the purple/pink will have to do. It works like a charm though. Regards,Gary
