I saw this a very long time ago. It is very well done. I spent a few hours looking at Google Maps and following the roads around Chernobyl. Here are some links of some landmarks. http://maps.google.com/?t=h&om=0&ll=51.284655,30.215471&spn=0.006254,0.014591 http://maps.google.com/?t=h&om=0&ll=51.284655,30.215471&spn=0.006254,0.014591> http://maps.google.com/?t=h&om=0&ll=51.389757,30.099696&spn=0.00156,0.003648 http://maps.google.com/?t=h&om=0&ll=51.389757,30.099696&spn=0.00156,0.003648> http://maps.google.com/?t=h&om=0&ll=51.408224,30.055482&spn=0.001559,0.003648 http://maps.google.com/?t=h&om=0&ll=51.408224,30.055482&spn=0.001559,0.003648> If my work ever takes me to Kiev, I'll for sure take to tour. It's a good story, but unfortunately her access was quite exaggerated. There was discussion of this on the list quite a while ago; it may be amusing to peruse the list archives. -- Blake Sobiloff http://sobiloff.typepad.com/blakeblog/> San Jose, CA (USA) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

So much for "we are all going to die from a nuclear reactor meltdown" crowd. Interestingly, humans seem to be especially vulnerable to radiation compared to most animals. So a big nuclear accident might be good for the environment simply because it gets rid of us... erik

Thanks for the BBC reference. I have heard surpisingly little about this subject from our media. BTW, i'd have to respond that while anmimals may "not seem to mind being exposed to radiation", people tend to make a bigger fuss about their ailments--and when human babies are born with disfigurations . . . -Dan in Pasadena, CA '05 KLR '90 R100GS --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Russell Scott" wrote:

lr spring preload?

I'm probably going against the grain here, but 2 1/2" seems to long to me. My spacers are a little under 2". Progressive used to recommend 2" I added some of Don Rolandos fork bearings to bring the length of the stack up to 2". The fork caps screwed in without noticeable resistance from the spring; preload is about 1/8". More preload would seem to defeat the purpose of a progressive spring. Every bit of preload brings the spring closer to coil bind on the closer-spaced coils, so that the effective rate is stiffer. I want the wheel to deflect easily over irregularities, especially rocks. I also do not get the obsession with fork dive under braking. I did not notice it even with the stock springs. Of course, I have been riding airheads for a long time. A lot of softly-sprung fork travel is par for the course (please forgive the golf trope in a motorcycle-related post).

Cool site, but was exposed as a hoax quite a few years ago.
