I have a set of Kendas 270 , and I'm planning on doing a trip to Co. from Ma. for the HU meet in july. Will the kenda tires last 5-6 K miles ?? Any thoughts on kings tires for this trip?? I plan on doing all highway on the way out and then hitting a shit load of jeep trail passes in Co. I had used gripsters on a trip to moab a few years back but I think i'm going to need a more dirt worthy tire for Co.???? I like TK-80's but I don't think the rear will last. As I have them on the bike now w/ 3500 miles and the rear doesn't look all that good.

Hi Gary! The TKCs can be deceptive; they wear very quickly initially, and then you get to the harder rubber towards the base of the knobs and the wear rate slows down considerably. It also helps if you run the rear at 36 PSI when you're on the pavement, but you can drop it down to 18-22 for the dirt. I have about 3,000 miles on my set of TKCs, and while the center has worn down a bit, there's still a good amount of tread left. Enough that I expect to get about 6K miles of of them. The k270s are the tire for you. Air them up on the highway (32/36) and for 1/3 the price of a pair of Mefos, the Kendas will easily go over 6k.

For such a long ride, why not suit up with a set of super highway tires to Colorado, buy a cheap pair of knobbies while you are here in the mountains of Colorado and then put your super highway tires on for the trip back east. I'm on the western slope of Colorado and I'll help you put `your tires on, off, on, etc.

Hey Gary-- I'd run whatever you have on there--or even a set of take-offs if you have knobbies in the garage that aren't bald but are useless for trails--to get to Colorado. Then put on a pair of K270s that you either carry with you, buy there, or mail to yourself. Run the K270s through Colorado, then air em up good and ride home on them. I think you might be able to get a set of K270s to do the whole trip, but wouldn't you have more fun in CO if your tires hadn't just been through 2 or 3 days off all day freeway?
