Is there any way to fix the speedometer error on the KLR. I think it is about 5 mph off at 55, but it is hard to determine speed when going faster or slower. Can I get a different gear or speedo head. Just curious. thanks.......Dave Kruse

I'm not sure if there is a way to correct the goofy speedo, (I suspect there isn't), but I can tell you that mine was erratic from day one. In fact, I think my first post to this list was asking why I seemed to be getting different speed indications at 4000rpm's. I'm still trying to decide if I'd really use a GPS, but have read on this list that people that DO own one use it as a much more accurate speedometer... Wise men still seek Him... Easiest way may be to install one of the electronic bicycle speedometers. I put one on last month and checked it with my GPS, very accurate. They run around $20 at Walmart, etc. My stock speedometers accuracy changes as speed increases, around 50mph its about 3mph off. At 65-70 its 5-6mph off. Always reads fast. Thanks for the replys on the speedo. I'll probably use the bicycle one for $20. I wish I could use what it already has, though. Oh well. One nice thing about the speedo reading fast, when someone else rides it, they think my bike is alot faster than it really is! happy holidays to all! Dave Kruse

That's because when speedo's are off, they are off by a percentage, not a numeric value. My car's speedo is off by 10%, IE: when it reads 80mph, I'm actually doing 88, when it reads 50, I'm actually doing 55. So it may be 3 mph off at one speed, but maybe 10 mph off at another speed. If it were off by a numeric value, say like 5 mph. It would read 5mph at zero mph, which doesn't work. Ryan Phoenix

according to my GPS 65mph on bike speedometer = 60 MPH, but as you slow downin the 35 to 45 range the bike speedometer is closer to correct. I suspect the faster you go the more off it is. --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, David Shugars wrote:

At an indicated 65mph on the speedometer, my KLR650 is going 60mph, verified with a stopwatch and milage markers on I95. Is there a way to adjust (slow down) the speedometer? Are there any taller than stock front tires advalible? I estimate it would take another 1.5" in diameter to correct the error.
