I recently purchased a 90 Klr 650 with 5900 miles on it. One of the
things not working on it when I bought it was the temperature gauge.
It was suggested that the wire from the sending unit on top of the
cylinder was disconnected. Sure enough, after pulling the tank off it
was indeed disconnected. So I reconnected it and it now reads hot,
from the moment the bike is started. The fan's working, there's
coolant,etc. Anybody have any ideas? Could it be a bad sending unit?

Sounds like the sending unit is bad. Better to fail and read hot then to read cold. Also check the ground and crossed wires.

temperature gauge on klr 650 always reads hot!
Use a voltmeter set on DC. Connect the black lead to ground and the
red to positive. Start with a cold bike and warm up the bike. The
voltage reading should change linearly. I will test my bike withing
the next couple of days and post something for you to compare to.
Maybe someone already hase the info.

799 miles this weekend...savannah to p'cola...
Got the perfect bass pond for you Jeff and it almost 400 miles long. It's called the Connecticut River and is only now being discovered by those "good old boys" with 90 MPH bass boats and trailers that glow in the dark. The river turns brackish (salty) about five miles from it's mouth in Long Island Sound, and salt water varieties begin to show up. Stripper bass, harbor blues, salmon, sturgeon and lots and lots of perch live happily side by side. It is a fabulously alive river which about 100 years ago was described as "the best landscaped sewer in the world". Today we swim in it and drink it's water. I've got that little 16 ft. boat you need with a little 28hp. motor. It goes all day on six gallons of gas and no radios, cell phones or time schedules allowed.
