Say you are going to call in an order to Fred 'cause your '98 choke
cable done snapped in two. Would you get the the little plastic carb
choke knob thinger too, even though it looks okay?

What other bits would you add if you're doing the choke cable?

 Thank yew!

<><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><> Joan, I haven't had to replace a choke cable yet. I'm kind of wondering what caused yours to break. I suppose the piece you're asking about is at the carb??? or is it at the handlebar? I guess either way I'd pull it now and take a good look at it. If I didn't see a problem I'd probably not replace it. But if it's the piece in the carb and it's hanging up then I'd probably order it. Sorry I can tell you what I'd do for sure. upgrade the KLR650 and i've installed some of the most difficult
ones! the sub-frame is quite a task! so is the mounting of the rear
rack, brake guard, center stand, military tank, hand guards, LED
taillight, headlight guard, custom Corbin seat, Military Super
Battery, engine guard with touring pegs, tamper resistant oil cap,
Twinair air filter and this bike only has 170 miles on it!!! This is
 Brand New!
i've spent the winter working on it and haven't even taken it
off-road yet! I drove it 10 miles back and forth from work, and then
once down to Chattanooga from Knoxville the very day i bought it!
I've bought the Five Year extended service agreement on it for
 $570!!!!!
This is THE best deal anyone could hope for and i've got to
sacrifice it because i'm in a custody battle for my sons' life!
The only thing that is left major to do is install the 320mm
front brake rotor and stainless lines and this bike is a world
touring, cross country monster! my plan was to have this bike for
the ultimate escape plan in case of disaster & in the mean time to
have a hell of a time playing in the woods! & going anywhere my
 heart desired!

This Cycle sells for $5,199.00 plus tax from the dealer, that's what
i paid for it, add Freight of $100, dealer prep for $75, Add sales

 $27.50..all this adds up quickly!
       5,199 cycle
 100 freight
 75 dealer prep
 809 tax
 75 documentation
license you'll have to do again so---
$570 for 5 yr warranty starting 11/14/06!!!! This was brand new
2007! Just hit the show-room Floor!
that is a value of $6,828! I have to sacrifice it for 5,500!
Some of the upgrades are not alterable, so they must be added to
this price. Hell, i guess i could just throw in the sub-frame
assembly kit worth $60, and the headlight guard and rear rack worth
$60. plus tax & shipping for the 5,500..it's alot of work
though..well my loss is your gain, all the other things can be sold
 separatel

everything is negotiable as i have to go to court soon and need a
 speedy sale.
contact me at my email address please.
               thanks,
                  Justin

There's also a KLX300 choke that mounts directly to
 the carb--just a plunger with a handle. Having a
broken choke currently (I cut the sleeve short so the
inner cable protrudes from in front of the gas tank...
works, but a bit inelegant) I'm going to test it out.
I've saved the discussion of it from earlier... now
that the FAQ is a wiki perhaps I'll go add this info.

"Res, I do like the mod. The Kawasaki part # is
 16016-1068 and it was
 $21.33 at ronayers.com.

All that is required to install it is to unscrew the
 stocker at the
carb and screw in the new KLX choke in its place.
 Once you un-route
the old choke cable back to the bar, one screw removes
 the choke
 cable at the bar.

The only down side is that it isn't real easy to
 reach, in my
opinion, though I don't have any real difficulty when
 I take a glove
off. If you can picture a plunger extending an inch
 or an inch or so
out from where the stock choke cable connects to the
 carb (left side
of bike) then you can see what the access is like.

Max pull out engages the detent. Spring loaded so it
 automatically
closes when released. Of course, you can manually
 vary the choke in
between. But the way I use it is strictly on/off
 during
 startup/warmup.

It's just a minor mod, and I wouldn't have bothered
 except I was
having a little trouble with my choke cable, was going
 into the carb
for something else (and ordering some oem parts from
 ronayers)
anyway, and with my vacuum line previously eliminated
 with Big Cee's
petcock kit, and a quick release coupling on my fuel
 likne, getting
rid of the last cable to my carb makes accessing
 things really easy."

Joan--

I'd order a cable luber--the neat little one that
clamps over one end of the cable and allows you to
force aerosol lube through the cable. It'll do the
 throttle and clutch, too.

I just snapped a choke cable as well, but I have to
(sheepishly) admit that though I'm really good with
the other cables, I've *never* lubed that choke. I
pulled out the broken cable and it was good and rusty
for a stretch in the middle, right on either side of
where it broke. Serves me right. I'm swapping it for
 a KLX choke though.
