The procedure will work if the piston is placed at TDC also but the down side is that the connecting rod must be absolutely in line or there is a risk that the air pressure will cause the crankshaft to rotate. This will also occur if anything happens to rotate the crankshaft even slightly. Having the piston stroke downward will, of course, create issues with the cam chain which has been disconnected and may not run true without jamming and causing a major trauma. If the piston, rings and cylinder are in acceptable condition then changing valve guide seals will have no effect. Ditto, valve sealing. If a valve grind (valve, valve guide and seat service) is performed on an engine which has poor cylinder sealing the increased combustion chamber sealing due to the improvement in valve sealing will often show up as increased oil consumption from the piston area. Similarly, worn main and connecting rod bearings on friction bearing type applications, will create oil consumption problems due to increased oil throw-off. This may go unrecognized until a top end service does not solve the oil consumption issue. Why not simply remove the head? It can be done that way however I am merely suggesting an alternative which may be less trouble and less expensive than removing the head. On the other side of the coin, it is typical for a complete cylinder head service to be performed rather than to consider what aspects of cylinder head condition require service. Time to get on with the day, Norm [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Hola! I have a XL regular Aerostitch Darien in Hi-viz, purchased new in April 2005. It has the shoulder, elbow & spine pads (regular - non competition) installed. Never crashed in (knocking on wood now) or altered in anyway. Washed it correctly only when really needed & always used UV treatments on it too. 100% functional & I would give it a solid 8 on the 'how is the hi-viz holding up' scale - still get the fireman comments. I am wanting to trade for the same (condition & color), but in the Darien light version. Love the jacket, just want the lighter version!
