doohicky busted?

Post by gust0261 » Sun Mar 11, 2007 6:01 pm

How do you tell if your doohicky is busted? I just adjusted the balancer chain adjuster by following the manual. As I turned it to the left it didn't move, didn't move, and then it snapped to the left. Then I was able to turn it a few revolutions and then turn it back and tighten it. The snap feeling worries me a little, along with a sortof hissing or fast paced tinkling sound I have been noticing lately.

Were you adjusting it with the engine running? -- Doug Herr doug@... A16 in Oakland, California

Mine actually made a little "tink" noise when I re-tightened the bolt and the doohickey snapped. I think I was hearing the exploded "donut" part landing in the sump. A loose balancer chain will make a random tink-tink sound from the left side of the engine at idle. I'd pull the cover and inspect ASAP. RM
