Yep!! If you are looking at anything and say "I can add this or buy that then it will be more of what I want" well if only it were so simple. Farkling is one thing but a complete make over is not my idea of fun. What do I need a bigger windshield for.... I have goggles. Kerry

Hi Tony, You are right--and the VW was never a race car. (shrug) You keep telling people the KLR is not a dirt bike and we will see Flame War III, right here on the com-pooter. When that happens, somebody will get their feeling hurt, somebody will get a time out, and then, to cure all the hard feelings (usually generated by oil/tire loyalties) we will all go out to the garage and worship our KLR some more--at the very least. (shrug again) revmaaatin. who hopes the Methodist Mafia never learns about my KLR addiction. (twitch-twitch) They might send me some place like South Dakota....oh, I am in SD....(slow night under dreary skies at the hospital while the helo is in the heated hanger)

After seeing the fuzzy pics, I kinda like it, as long as it was something that could be quickly detached, it has the KTM/NX650/Tengai type look to it. For us folks that only have one bike, it has the ability to use the bike in commute or play mode, reckon no different than somebody who has 2 sets of wheels with street/dirt tires mounted on them. Providing this fairing could take a reasonable amount of punishment say small tree branches and such it would ok I think. At least you could still hit the fire roads and trails. Been slapped enough with small branches and would rather polish off a scratch off something than bandage myself, reckon getting old. But totally agree about buying a $5k bike adding $3k worth of farkle and upgrades (many of which I had, but make do without) only to post it for sale with a stupid comment like "never been down" or "never been offroad" have to ask myself why would you buy all that stuff metal skid pan, metal hand guards ect ect ect and then not take it off the pavement ? Dee Dee Dee.... (Thanks Carlos) I have bounced many things off the OEM plastic shovel and other than gouges and scratches its fine (sofar) someday I will either just buy one or make one, handguards would be nice, but other than some stretch makes/gouges I still have the OEM windguards and no broken levers and yes the bike has been rubber side up a few times more than I care to remember. Actually I have a aftermarket "shorty" clutch lever on the bike, but that was because I wanted a short lever so I could one or two finger the clutch and still be able to grip the bars when in the woods. Speaking of hooky luggage would that include my Army pack that is semi waterproof and seems to strap to the rack nicely using the shoulder straps with a net to aid in retention ? (and whatever else a series of bungie straps can keep on the bike. Even the Camel-Pac copy-cat has some storage in it. Dooden A15 Green Ape

Speaking of Dee Dee Dee's... (many of which I had, but make do without) Should read (many of which I wish I had, but make do without) You may continue with your scheduled debate on KLR fairings. Maybe Craig should join the group, no doubt would get lots and lots of feedback. Dooden A15 Green Ape

Mark, you just don't understand "farkle". This stuff is not for improvements necessarily, just like jewelry on women. Some of it is decoration, some is personal expression and some of it is just "because". I did a mock-up fairing on my KLR last year. I added various bits of hardware and was ablt to comfortably ride around 20F. It looked like crap and the duct tape ruined some of my fine plastic but in January and February there aren't many bikers on the road to criticize. Besides, I ride a KLR, so I don't care! I think Wing riders may fool you. Many of them don't really have any emotions at all for their ride. Its a tool, an appliance; one that works, time after time. Some day when I can no longer appreciate the fine points of the KLR, I may look that way. By then I may even need the trike version (gawd). Until then, ride often, ride safe.

Somehow a Goldwing/dual sport triggers some very bizarre visions, but then, why not? They race snowmobiles on the grass in August, tracks on ATV's , studded tires on dirt bikes and now slicks on dirt bikes (supermotard).

I emailed Craig yesterday and he responded about two hours later as follows:
>>
Weigh? Don't know yet but it is mostly .083 aluminum. It will be pretty light. Also, I am asking those who write: If money were no object, would you buy something other than a KLR? And if so, what would it be?
>>
Also, according to the web site I get the impression it'll be quickly removable and the mounts would double as protection bars. My answer to his question was, assuming we're talking adventure bikes here, a rebuilt from the main bearings-out R80GS, with an 11 gallon Acerbis tank. And an 07 KLR. Dave C

jordan valley in may

Post by Larry » Sat Feb 17, 2007 4:53 pm

I am trying to plan a Jordan Valley trip in May. I hope for 3-5 days in the area. Mostly KLR's maybe a XR Honda and a KTM. Never ridden here before. 1. What will the weather be? Wet/Dry, 70's or 80' in the day? Late or Early May does it matter? 2. What is the name (contact info)of the RV camp site used by others in the past. Tents and toy hauler will be used in my group of 3-5. 3. Anyone with Garmin routes and way points willing to share. 4. Please list any do not miss locations. Thanks Larry
