It is a rip-off. My banker told me I had the highest FICO he had ever seen. Progressive still docked me as I has bought my wife a car. If anyone can recommend a better company I'm ready to switch.

One other company occurred to me regarding M/C insurance: State Farm I have never had a M/C policy with them. And I know they seem to be *screwing* hurricane victims in LA/MS/TX. And they *can* be overpriced. BUT...once I turned 25, had zero tickets/accidents, and was married...they had the best rate in town at that time. When I had a terrible car wreck (that left me on disabled for over a year) they paid off the car, paid for medical, & made disability payments directly to me. No quibbling, no lawyers, just good service. Sorry to say their rates in IL (where I now live) aren't nearly as favorable as they were in AR (at least on cars). Does anyone have an M/C policy with them? Ever had a claim? What was your experience? I *had* State Farm as my insurance company for about 15 years, but their motorcycle rates started going through the roof so I switched to 21st Century. I had several auto claims with SF and they were always easy to deal with and quick to pay out, and since the claims weren't my fault my rates didn't skyrocket. Shortly after I switched to 21st Century I totaled my Triumph (motorcycle). Their adjuster took about six weeks to inspect my bike and properly fill out the paperwork. Frustrating, and the dealership warned him that they'd start charging a storage fee after two weeks but that still didn't seem to motivate him. Oh well, at least the dealership got several hundred bucks. :-) -- Blake Sobiloff http://sobiloff.typepad.com/blakeblog/> http://sobiloff.typepad.com/klr_adventure/> San Jose, CA (USA) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I have had my bikes and cars with State Farm for a long time. Used to have my homeowners' there, too. The rates, if not always the very lowest, have always been very competitive. Only one bike claim, on a stolen SR500. They offered me a settlement that was more than fair. That was always the case on my homeowners' claims as well, as when my wife vaporized a pot roast on the stove. The settlement paid for a complete clean-up of our house, property and furnishings, a new kitchen with much better appliances and cupboards, and a little dough left over. On my auto claims, my experience has been mixed. Most offers over the years have been good enough to accept without hesitation. However, when I totaled my van last year, they wanted to lowball me badly. I had to really make my case, not just with citations to the Car Soup listings, but by passing on my comparitive analysis after looking at the vehicles first hand. It was a lot of work, but I was shopping for a van at the same time, so most of it had to be done anyway.

I wonder how much of a settlement offer is dependant on how generous that one person is feeling on that day. --sam hudson, san antonio tx.

I use them, too. Good price, they weren't too bad to deal with when I went down on the freeway, cracking the frame and tearing up the left side. Had to salvage title the bike to keep it (well over half the value of the bike in repairs) but it didn't cost me anything. And rates didn't go up noticably afterwords. erik

On a brand new KLR and only a permit(road dirt for years no need for a license) $380 a year full coverage with a $500 deductible through bike line. comes to $32 a month, not bad Kerry --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Richard A. Butler" wrote:
