Brief background. Bike dies, seems like out of gas, but have plenty.
Working the petcock between reserve and on would get it to go a few
more miles. Also, opening gas cap seemed to help. Still dies. I
pulled the petcock and diaphram, looked perfect and clean, with only
some gasket material that was bunged up and I removed. Breather hose
to tank is clear, the bike is decalifornicated. Went on a couple 20
mile rides, no problem. Pack up to do some good desert riding today,
same symptoms.
Any ideas? I am sure it is fuel related, but it may be electrical. I
was thinking of pulling the carb, and doing the two safety bypass fixes
just in cast that is the problem. I posted this before if it seems
familiar, no answer yet. I have an extended warranty, which I never
used or hope to. Like to do my own work, but am considering going to
the dark side.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

just in cast that is the problem. Do the safety bypass fixes first. Not hard and you ll eventually have to do them anyway. I ll bet that s it. First thing is check everything for holes leaks or what have you.
Then pull the carb and disassemble, check, adjust, reassemble.
Can't realy narrow it down much more then that I would just start
eliminating things.

bike dies
Assuming that the petcock is functioning,
and the gas is "clean" , i.e. no clogged carb jets, or water in the gas.
then check the valve clearances. Too tight clearances can
cause the bike to run briefly then quit.
