Are you trying to say you want to be a loud idiot or differentiating yourself by saying they are the loud idiots and you are a not as loud idiot? One more question. If all the HD's and Ricky Racers in your area decide to kill themselves would you kill yourself too? Maybe... just maybe if you try to not add to the problem instead of being part of the problem your neighbors would not hate you. You can have plenty of fun on a bike without having to be obnoxious. These riders are probably unaware of the damage they are doing to our sport. Because of loud pipes, many communities and public/state/federal parks have banned motorcycles altogether. There is also talk from the other side of the pond (and we'll get the ripple effect from all this), of banning aftermarket parts and accessories (restrictions apply). Unfortunately, we are our own enemy. The big deal is not all road users share our passion for motorcycling, or in some cases, the sound of the exhaust note, and we all know, there are more people out there that would rather see motorcycles go by the way of the dinosaur. So any fuel we can give them, like loud pipes, or reckless riding behavior, (on public roads) is turned against us. --- a14@... wrote:

Again not to be a PITA but I didn't buy this bike to be kind to my neighbors, If I wanted a quiet bike I would have bought a Vespa. I'm a HOT ROD guy what can I say. But please don't get me wrong the idoits I'm refering to are riding/ driving illegal bikes and cars. You can hear the differance when they drive by and you get a guy that cranks open the throttle on a straight piped bike and well you get 200+dB but if the same guy came rolling through and was a bit more reserved with the throttle it would be a lot less noise. It just seems to me that a few people here on this board are more concerned with how loud their bike is then anything else. the reason I'm adding a supertrap to the bike is to get rid of the lawn mower sound coming from the tail pipe. If it makes it louder oh well,I won't be putting the stock pipe back on. Personaly I like the sound of a of a throaty engine and couldn't care less how loud my bike is. Kerry

I've been on both sides of this issue, as I once rode Harleys with rather loud (never ran them open) pipes, and I'll have to admit, I never came close to getting hit by someone changing lanes on top of me. Then I got a 76 GL1000 and ever since I started riding quiet bikes, I frequently have to avoid getting sideswiped. I even had some stupid cager chew me out for my KLR being too quiet and that was why he almost ran over me. Never mind how the rest of that encounter went... And while I agree that my KLR has an exhaust note reminiscent of the old Honda Mini-Trail 50, I think I'll keep it quiet. A little louder wouldn't be bad if it sounded better, but If my only choice is 75db, or 110db, I'll go for the 75. It would be nice if there were a decent aftermarket exhaust for the KLR, but I have yet to find one I like, so I'll stick with stock. I didn't buy this bike for performance. I have an '83 V65 Honda for that. Loud enough to hear is not too loud for most of us, but we have to remember how many non-bikers see anyone on a motorcycle as a threat to them, their way of life, everything. You cruise by and they hear nothing, you're garbage, but you aren't offensive garbage. Rattle their windows and they'll write the crooks in government and complain. And we'll get more laws. Cagers outnumber us and they own the government. This guy thinks he's different, but when laws are passed about loud bikes, he'll be lumped with all the other idiots, and the cops won't be able to tell the difference, and won't care. And we'll all end up paying for people like him. --- Kerry Stottlemyer wrote:

Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who didn't. "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure." -- Helen Keller ____________________________________________________________________________________ Sucker-punch spam with award-winning protection. Just keep in mind that YOU may be the guy with the loud pipe that passes the state legislator who finally gets fed up enough to introduce the bill that limits motorsyslists' freedoms in your state, and which passes with overwhelming support. It can happen, it might happen, and it just might be your fault. I'm just thinking out loud on this. Stephen --- Kerry Stottlemyer wrote:

It is called Caribou Luggage, I got the first one made for the KLR. GREAT product, sadly been involved in 3 accidents, 1 pretty severe and the cases are holding up great, plus the mounting racks work great as crash bars. Everett

80 dB is totaly unrealistic 95 dB is more like it. Normal traffic is louder then 80 dB Here's a dB loudness rating range. http://www.gcaudio.com/resources/howtos/loudness.html From this chart they would ban classical concerts. Kerry

This is an indefensible, ridiculous, selfish, childish, antisocial attitude and will, in the end, cost all of us something we enjoy. If you really "couldn't care less about how loud your bike is", you should just plumb the exhaut right up to your helmet and then you can enjoy it and the rest of us don't have top suffer. Needlessly loud, obnoxious bikes really piss me off, and I say this as someone that owns 4 1/2 bikes and has owned a motorcycle for 30 of my 40 years on this planet. Less sound = more ground Thanks CA Stu
