product review - off-road light kit

Post by rosslindberg » Tue Dec 12, 2006 10:04 pm

I think this kit should greatly improve your vison on the road. They are not DOT legal, but when meeting another vehicle you can hit the high beam switch and the off-road lights will turn off and the stock headlight will turn on in the high beam mode. I bought the kit because we have such a high deer population in our area. Having survived clobbering an 8 point buck at 65 mph, I definately don't want to repeat that experience. I try to be home before dark, but it doesn't always happen. Ross

Here are the specs for the lights and what the stock KLR puts out and uses. Hope this helps everyone. 1.Stock KLR between 196 ~ 238 total watts @ 8000 ~ 7000 rpm's (Older ~ Newer Models) 2.Total watts needed to run KLR approximately108 watts. 3.Left over watts 88 ~ 130 approximately, running the low-beam only. 4.Left over watts 33 ~ 75 approximately, running the off-road lights only. Mind you the specs on number 4 is the kit in question, I cannot say for any other lights or anyone else's setup. If you have anymore questions please let me know. product review - off-road light kit

Now that Kerry and Glenn have me straightened out on how to post, I'll try this again. I just want to reafirm Ross' evaluation of Brian's lighting kit. Though I've yet to install it, the quality of the components used, workmanship of assembly, clarity of instructions and packaging are all excellent. I contacted Brian after reading Ross' report and was told he was out of kits, but would contact me when more were ready - and he did. I placed an order on Friday and the kit was sitting on my porch on Tuesday. Brian's in WA and I'm in OH. Since the weather in Ohio has finally turned wintery, it may be a while before I install the kit. I'm really looking forward to brighter factory lighting and the adjustable off-road lamps since my night vision isn't what it used to be. For any of you interested in the lighting kit Russ reviewed earlier, Brian has (2) on eBay now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KAWASAKI-KLR-650-HIGH-OUTPUT-HEADLIGHT- W-EXTRAS- KLR650_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10066QQihZ008QQitemZ180074728034QQrd Z1 I have nothing in this, but, as I reported, was extremely impressed with the workmanship of this product.
