stock shifter options - need more room

Issue: I am unable to ride my KLR with MX style riding boots because I cannot shift effectively. The distance between the footpeg and the shift lever is too small for my left boot to fit comfortably under the shift lever. Question: Is there a gear shift lever or footpeg solution that will enable me to wear my MX boots and shift the bike like I can with street boots or shoes? Thanks.

The IMS shift lever is about 3/4" longer than the stock shift lever. Moose makes some footpegs that are offset towards the rear about 1/2". Fred www.arrowheadmotorsports.com

There is an oversize shifter that is a bit longer than the stock shifter and more robust too. Arrowhead Motorsports has them. But even with the longer shifter I don't have enough room with my size 14 MX boots. So I have to shift very deliberately and have to move my foot back a bit on the pegs. I would switch to Aerostich Sidi Combat Touring boots. They are sorta like an MX boot without the ski boot feel. You can actually walk comfortably with them and they give plenty of protection. MX type boots I have had problems shifting in the past. I rode a friends bike in a sort track race years ago and he lent me his MX boots to race in. I had problems shifting. I thought it was the bike but it was the boot. Still got a second place finish in one race. The Combat Touring boots are a great boot for dual sport type riding. Criswell

When I have my Combat Touring Lights on, it's a lot harder to get my foot under the shifter. I find myself upshifting with the side of my foot rather than the top. If I've been wearing other boots previously, the first couple shifts of my ride are awkward. After that it's fine. --mkb [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

When I ride with my MX boots on it's tough to get my toe under the shifter but it can be done, however I prefer to use the back of my heel, the Achilles area, to shift up. Just rest the boot on the shifter and gently pull up works every time and is a technique taught to me by an Enduro rider in the UK many moons ago. Shifting down is just the same as usual.
