Post by sagitarian62 » Sun Nov 19, 2006 10:11 am

Hi Guys, have any of you heard of any companies producing any aftermarket fairings or cowlings for the KLR's? I would like to find something that doesn't look quite so dorky!! :) Thanks, 2006 KLR.

Hey, just get rid of the J.C. Whitney top box and your KLR won't look half as dorky. ;-{> Some guys have converted to a KLR250 headlight/fairing. Others have installed the spacy- looking ones from Acerbis.

But then what's your plan for the rest of the bike? You have to learn to be comfortable with it's dorkiness. Funny, mine doesn't look dorky with me on it. Maybe it's you. Running for cover, Norm [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Hey Norm. Would that be the factory fairing or the plywood stealth version? Don Norm Keller wrote: Funny, mine doesn't look dorky with me on it. Maybe it's you. It's hard to tell from your pictures, but I think your guards should sit lower, preferably with the guard bar a little below the level of the handlebars. They will protect the levers better, and will reduce the risk of broken wrists in the event you go over the bars. It looks like the bracket at the inner end could be flipped to bring that end down, but that may not be the answer. I would start by mounting them at the outer end, rotating them forward until they they are in the position you want. Then play with the pieces of the inner bracket until they fit close to where you want them. Assemble everything loosely and tighten the brackets a little at a time to see how they fit. You may need to rotate the guards up or down a little from your preferred position in order to get everything to draw up cleanly. I have never encountered a set of lever guards that needed to be bent in order to mount them. You may also need to slide the lever perches inward a little bit to get the lever ends to clear the guards. The process may also involve rolling the handlebars forward or back a bit in order to get the fit you want, as well as riding position.
