I am looking for comments about the Clearview windshields. I'm 6'2" and am considering getting the +11 model. Also, who is the best source to buy one from, can they be purchased straight from clearview? Thanks in advance Pete Wittstruck A16 Turlock, CA [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Pete - I have the clearview +7" model, and it's worked pretty well for me. I'm just shy of 6'1" tall, and the folks at clearview recommended the +9 model for me, but I opted for the +7 because I don't like to look thru the windshield, and because it will be more suitable for off road riding. The fairing flexes a fair bit with the +7 installed, so I can't imagine what it would do with the +11 installed. I actually fabricated a brace that goes from the two bolts on the back of the headlight to the center windshield bolt, to reduce the flexing. The +7 keeps a lot of the wind off of my chest and the wind blast at ~70 mph hits me somewhere in the area of my face shield on my helmet, which is not ideal but more acceptable than the stock unit. The +9 may be a good option for you, a lot of people are using them, your call, good luck what ever you choose. By the way, I have a little over 6,000 miles on my clearview and have used it in rain and sub-freezing temperatures. Kevin 'twotaildog'

Clearview makes a great product. I think you really have to think about the whole windshield issue though as you can wind up with more wind noise and buffering around your helmet than with the stock setup. I'm 6' and ordered the +7" and found this out much to my annoyance. I wound up swopping the shield for something else on the DSN classifieds page. It seems that unless you ride a BMW R100RS, you have to physically look through the windshield in order for it to actually shield you from the wind. Of course, your milage may vary, but this is something to be aware of before you spend $100 or so. Another solution would be to buy one of those clip-on type shields (Spitfire??) that you can use as needed. They attach to the bars and the shield itself can be rapidly detached when you go off road, etc. All of this has been debated over and over again, so it'd be good to search through the archives (if they are working these days). Everytime I visit the local hardware store and see those big sheets of perspex available I think about making my own shield. I'd like something that could protect my legs also. The problem seems to be figuring where to attach perspex to the bike without breaking or spraining something on the bike/perspex. I also think about those scooters I saw in Italy with the windshields that were actually full roofs! Something like this would make the prospect of riding the KLR in a Denver winter more palatable, although people might laugh at me at least I'd be warm. Jon --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Jon - as far as protecting your legs - I found that the Aerostoch tank panniers work great, almost like having fairing lowers. They have sheets of plastic in them, so they don't collapse, even when empty. Just a thought. Kevin 'twotaildog'

No bike yet but I'm farkeling. Received I got mine from Tim @ Happy Trails (on sale even!) They also have em at sporttour.com IMO this is one of those items though I'd probably wait until you got the bike to see what exactly you need. It's nice in the winter but in the summer its coming off, and I can't imagine going anywhere off-road with it... jim

Great idea - the options prior to the bike (?) - Awe heck, If ya know, ya know. Clearview 11+ [or +11] is not cheap, as you probably know (It is what I use). No discount outlets that I know of. When I break mine in a 'get-off' I expect that I will contact http://www.happy-trail.com/productinfo.aspx?productid=184&categoryid=16&star tpage=3 or Fred, or a few others - but they are in a shallow boat of margin. It is not cheap. How about you get your KLR first? Mike Torst Las Vegas

Thanks to all that responded. I'm not ready to order just yet, just trying to get my ducks in order. I understand it takes several weeks to get one. Thanks again Penn Carr St. Louis KLR650 "Sometime soon" COG 3256 CDA #17a-? 1998 ZG1000 "Shogun" Missouri Plate "COG"
