where is this high-speed front end wobbling coming from?!

i have a question. i have a new 2006 klr with 2400 miles on it. is it normal for the temp gauge to jump all over the place. i have checked the coolant level and it fine..any help would be great....thanks jack

I have a 93 that does pretty much the same thing. It'll move between 1/4 and 1/2 on the gauge during normal usage. Generally 1/2 when i'm sitting. It doesn't seem to be running hot ever, never a problem and the coolant is new and clear. I figured it's due to the small cooling system. If you expect the KLR temperature gauge to operate like an automobile gauge, you're mistaken. Auto gauges go from cool to operating temperature and pretty much stay there. Unless something goes wrong with the cooling system to cause it to over-heat. As Moose indicates, the guage will read cooler when the bike is at speed and will register hotter when idling, particularly in warm temperatures. Today, it was 37 degrees F. While running on the highway, the gauge was reading less than 1/4. When I stopped and let the bike idle for a bit, the gauge went to 1/2 and the fan kicked in. Obviously, air rushing through the radiator provides sufficient cooling while at speed. Once stopped however, the fan must assist with cooling. The same happens with automobiles although, you don't see it reflected on the coolant temperature coolant gauge as you do with the KLR. Your bike behaves just as it does if overloaded; the front wheel "hunts". You have already noticed that putting weight on the front settles it down. More rear spring will have the same effect.
