axle removel

Post by Larry W Menefee » Sun Oct 15, 2006 3:45 pm

Find it hard to remove the axle to change the wheel? Remove the axle and look to see where the bearings ride on it.Take a measurment. Now clean the axle real good...mark with a pencle where the bearings ride on the axle...take a strip of emery or sand paper and sand everything else...not a lot but just enough to reduse the diameter a little. Now grease it good and put it back. the next time you remove it you will only be sliding the part that rests on the bearings through the wheel. Always did it on my enduro bikes and I could pull the axle out with my fingers. Larry W. 3 klr's on i-10 in tucson

Post by Tim J. Todd » Mon Oct 16, 2006 11:00 am

I met 3 KLR's headed west on I-10 near Tucson this past Saturday. Just wondering if it was anyone on the board here? I believe all 3 were green, two dark and one bright. I was headed east in my truck going to a horse sale.
