Well I bought an Avon Gripster, It's brand new.. I might buy a D606.. anyone wanna trade one? or buy the Avon? Just seeing if there is interest.. I think the D606 is cheaper than the Avon, but don't quote me..

D606s are cheaper. I just swapped out wheels on my KLR this weekend, from 606s to Gripsters. First "streety" tires I have put on there since the stockers. What a hoot. Makes it a different bike, and I dig the handling. Of course, the reason I swapped out wheels is my rear wheel bearings were shot and I had a lot of play in the rear axle. I also rebuilt my wave rotor with some fresh washers, and now it doesn't rattle and flop all over the place. It's like a different machine, I tell ya. I can see why Gripsters are so popular with the long distance KLR gang. They are smooth and grippy on the street, and I bet they'll last forever. Sweet tire. Cheers CA Stu

I'm always interested in what people have to say about their tires. So much depends on that kind of surface you're going to be on. Most of my riding is on pavement with occasional forays on dirt roads. Where I live here in panhandle Florida, we often have focal collections of very fine sand on the roads, especially at intersections and on roads on the edge of town and rural roads. Those fine sand grains on a smooth asphalt surface were essentially ball bearings for my Gripsters. Even pulling off into the loose sand adjadjacent to the pavement can be very dicey with the Gripsters. Needless to say, I couldn't wait to get my 20 & 21 Trailwings which I am more than happy with. I think next time around, I'll try the D606 myself, but never again a Gripster. Steve in Niceville.

I know all to well about the sand on the roads that you described. In 2002, my new Kawasaki ZR7S and I had a brief encounter with a small amount of sand in a parking lot. $400 worth of bodywork later, I learned my lesson. However, my A13 has no such problems with the sand. The Kendas I have are awesome! Great on the dirt and the street. By the way, do you ever ride on Eglin's reservation or are you mostly a commuter? Just good to hear from someone close to home. I miss the panhandle and only get to visit home about twice a year. Next time I visit, I'll probably bring the KLR with me so I can explore Blackwater State Forest which is located in the North part of the county. Have a good day. Troy

Like you said, Gripsters are fine pavement tires. I find they also work ok on hard pack and/or rocky trails and roads. Where I have a problem with them is on gravel; there they ride squirrelly. I'll be curious to know what you'll think of their gravel performance. Bogdan

Troy - My Gripsters had my backside trying to grip my KLR seat a couple of times before I replaced them. No similar problems with the Trailwings to date. Some things look better in the rear view mirror, such as ex-wives and bad tires. I go to Crestview often. I have bought most of my guns though Jay's downtown and use the shooting range east of town which has reopened. I'm off Range Road in Bluewater Bay in Niceville. I've been here for 16 years and to the best of my knowledge, cycle riding is prohibited on the range. The Blackwater area has plenty of roads, as you know. Conecuh N.F. in Alabama northwest of Crestview and the Apalachicola N.F. southwest of Tallahassee have lots of dirt roads. The latter is where I taught my kids to drive a car as well as on the range. The latter is where I taught my kids to drive a car as well as on the range. great place to learn how to fall in the sand. always remember when you feel out of control and your about to damage your motor cycle and hurt yourself!!! speed up wouldn't want to have a sissy wreck. something in the brain has to be overcome to do this. just like on some curves that makes your ass eat your seat because you want to go straight (not make the turn) this is poorly written but i bet everybody knows what i mean hal2006 hal2006
