Yep these are terrible cheap bikes. Shake you to pieces. You really need to spend 10 to 20 grand to have a good motorcycle. Cheap Japanese crap. Criswell

what can the seller get for his bike if he tried to trade it in. check nada and or blue book. never pay more than retail. how much do you think you would be able to get someone to pay for it if you were trying to get rid of it. like the current owner is. but it's only money. hal2006

Accessories should have little $ value to a buyer, unless you really gotta have them; from a buyers standpoint better to value @ $0 and get 'em for free. Keep looking. KBB is great for sellers, sucks for buyers. Remember, the books are only a price *guide*. Personally I stay away from sellers who start high. Many times they're just unreasonable and it's just easier to move on ~ that is if you're price conscious. Then again, sometimes it's just easier in the long run to spend the bucks and go have fun. My two cents. Fred --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Steve Gochenour" wrote: > > I just completed my Motorcycle Safety Class this weekend and I want to buy a > KLR650. looking to purchase klr650 and have some questions

I purchased a new 2006 KLR for $4999 ($6K out the door), one place had a 2005 for $4800; another "premier" bike shop was listing it at $5900. It's not a very popular bike around Chicago (as a matter of fact I've yet to see one, so I get a lot of odd looks when I'm on mine), so there weren't any good used ones I could find. One friend did mention seeing a used one in Wisconsin but you have to wonder what some DPO would do to it out in the sticks. Overall, the price was low enough to offset any anxieties over DPO (mis/non)maintenance.

Hi Jim. I think the comment about Wisconsin and DPO in the sticks is a little harsh. For your information, many, if not most urban dwellers are quite adept at and very much maintenance conscious. I'd say, probably more so that the average city slicker. When you live in the "sticks", it's a long way to the hardware store. Maintenance is essential. In addition to the above, all of Wisconsin is not "sticks". If you want "sticks", come to Northwestern Ontario. You'll see sticks.
