Hello all, My front seals are leaking and there is no dampering left on my A6 forks. I am considering doing everything myself since I don't trust any of the 16 year old "motorcycle mechanics" at many of the dealerships. I looked on Mark's page and some of the links but didn't see any of the detailed proceedures (besides changing the oil). I do have the shop manuals and know I need special tools. I figure the cost of the tools may equal having the work done and give peace of mind. Can anyone point me in the direction for more detailed instructions and the parts needed and where the best place to get tools would be? I know I am asking alot! Thanks! Tim A6- Clearlake, Texas (Did the Doo at 13k and no abnormalies where found)

My special tool cost me $1.99 at Menards (hardware store) 4 way 1 1/4 PVC fitting. Used to drive seal. air compressor used on fork nipples (Oh my he said NIPPLE) to blow seal out.. and upper bushing... Ooops watch the pressure. Sorry have to run cannot explain, but might search a bit more procedures on the net for sure. Dooden A15 Green Ape

"http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Breakers/8462/KLR650/ForkSeal- RR.html" Without the " & " Shows the special tool I used. Bookmarks are kinda lost in transit to the new computer.. no thanks to Charter's wonderful service... Pricks... had to have them come out twice to work on the dropping signal problem, of course, it would have been once if they would have done what I told them was wrong, not to mention saved me trips back and forth exchanging modems and such... Removed machines (old timers but they worked fine) off the network, removed router, single machine still same troubles with dropped carrier.. tech service of course went stupid cause I had such a old OS (Win98 SE) and could'nt really help me... So I called Dell to take that excuse away from them.. Anyhow.. sorry should'nt vent here. I used a cheapy plastic ruler as a depth gauge. held thumb at the 190mm mark when checking/adding oil. Stock springs, stock spacers and 10wt is what I used, one a single OEM seal picked up locally for about $13 total, why mail order something and pay the extra on shipping my thoughts, unless ordering other items I suppose. I do not really have a problem with the stock suspension, but my last time riding (years ago and 3 children) suspension was well less than the old KLR design. ;-) Heck.. Disc brakes are great.. ;-) Check out the website, it explains pretty good to me. Using that screwdriver next to the tube kinda makes me nervious, one scratch/gouge and might as well forget changing the seal, cause it would be leaking shortly after installing if the tube is scratched. Be careful, its pretty simple to do, also when I finished and reinstalled the forks on the bike I made the top of the caps 2 centimeters higher than the top of the triple, can flat foot both feet now. 5'11" ish and 190 lbs. AWESOME. Thanks! The forks are sort of just "springy" with no dampening on the "rebound" and leaking a bit of oil. The bike has 18K on it. Do you think seals are the only thing I need to replace? Should I tackle the bushings too?

Nipple is fine, Schrader valve is more accurate (but you know that); and/or for nipple, you could have said 'teat' aka as the dinner plate in the kaws udder, after all it is a 'kaw'-a-saki and we all know, kawboys will udderly chase kaws and kalves with well equipped, 4-handled teats (at least the cowboys I ride with). revmaaatin. yes, it is a 'kaw'a-saki, even though the KLR650 was recently refered to here at DSN as a 'pig'. So, I ask you, "Do kawboys really ride kaw's, or is it pigs?" Enquiring minds want to know.

good places to get replacement body parts? (fenders, side molding,

Post by dogreene » Mon Jul 31, 2006 8:01 am

Any suggestions on a good place to buy replacement body parts including front and rear fenders, radiator cowling, etc.? Ideally, I'd like to get either red, green or yellow parts. Also, I'm hoping I could buy the whole works as a kit, but also have the option of buying the pieces individually. Thanks. Doug Greene Ketchum, Idaho
