I know the poor quality of Big Gun exhausts is common knowledge these

big gun exhaust warning
I've also known people who have had problems with the aluminum can exhausts, but I wonder if that guy rejetted his bike after installing the system? Running stock jetting through that thing wouldn't be doing it any favors. Krokko -- J. Christopher Krok, Ph.D. Big Cee Engineering KLR650 Accessories and home of the FAQ> 11a. ??????????????????
I usually don't get involved but I have been running the Big Gun
Race for over two years and other than losing the end cap once it is
a great exhaust. How do these things pop up...?? all of a sudden???
Is there a White's or Supertrapp guy on an infiltration mission or
something??

big gun exhaust warning
As one who has put up web pages (although I haven't gone to the trouble
to purchase a whole new domain) to warn people away from companies,
I'll offer my insight. I'm a firm believer in having principles and in
karma.
I've been royally screwed by a few companies that after trying to
resolve the problem with them I was left very dissatisfied to the point
that I was mad as hell and I wasn't going to take it anymore. So I
figured the one small benefit I could get out of the situation would be
to warn others not to make the same mistake in dealing with these
companies. I get a little bit of satisfaction every time I get an email
from someone saying thanks for the warning. One page that I put up
(Google "Prestige Camera") gets about 250 visits a month, and I get at
least one email a week from someone thanking me for the information. I
even got a written letter from someone thanking me, that really
surprised me. So I know that I've cost Prestige far more than the $50
it would have cost them to resolve the complaint.
Every company may have problems from time to time, I know I screw up.
But the big difference is what does the company do to try to resolve
the problem, and was it an honest mistake or were they really trying to
deceive you and rip you off.
In the case of Big Gun, I have no direct experience with them. But your
own admission that you had the end cap fall off of a two year old
exhaust seems to validate the point that the web site was making.
One final word, when ever dealing with a new company on the Internet, I
now Google the company name to check out their reputation.

Man you guys raises a lot of doubt. I have a big gun on back order right
now, it ships in a couple of weeks. I am debating on canceling my order
after hearing all of this. Lets get some more input from other, members and
aftermarket exhausts.

Maybe the BG system needs a flex/slip/expansion joint and
mounting/attachment improvements? (or a redesign?)

Well, let's start with this one: what good, exactly, do you think an aftermarket exhaust is going to do you? They're a little lighter. But they _don't_ add any useful amount of horsepower (even with rejetting) on the KLR, many of them lack a USFS approved spark arrestor (meaning you risk an expensive ticket in lots of fun offroad areas) and many of them fall apart. Plus they're all louder, which hurts access for every rider of every off-road and dual-sport vehicle everywhere. Thor> Man you guys raises a lot of doubt. Well the good in it, of course the weight, and the look is a plus. Then the
noise is a plus to me , maybe not to a lot of other people, but I want a
little bit more noise out of the bike, and the horse power increase I have
read is noticeable, and I like tinkering with things so stock is not what I
want.

I think I've said this before, but here's what *I'd* like out of an aftermarket exhaust: 1) A deeper tone: Not louder, just not sounding like an oversized lawnmower (even though it is) 2) Lighter weight 3) No tweet! 4) No repacking 5) USFS-approved spark arrester I haven't found one that can meet all those requirements, but I'd probably buy it if I could. As a last resort I may end up sending my stock exhaust down to MultisurfaceMotorcycling and have them do their end cap work to get rid of the tweet.
