Hello I have a new KLR 650, this summer it has 2000km on it now, its been tuned. But it still surges, and back fire on gear downs. Help. Surging typically means that the pilot fuel jet is set too lean. Your dealer can't adjust that for you (or, rather,, won't -- it's legal to pop the cap off and adjust it as long as the bike still passes emissions via an exhaust tester afterwards and he puts a new cap on to keep you from tampering, but dealers typically want nothing to do with that), you'll need to do it yourself. There's a variety of directions on the Internets fer doin' that one, dig around and you'll find something.

My KLR backfires when I have the idle speed set wrong. That's not the only cause of backfires, of course. But fiddle with the big knob on the right side of the carb until it idles at 1500rpm with the engine warm, then try it again and see if it still backfires. -E
