klr ability to sink like submarine

Post by klr650_ryder » Tue Jul 04, 2006 7:00 pm

Just a little to share with y'al I took my good old reliable KLR out for a Forth of July run and have a little fun with it. since it has been raining here quite a bit there was more water out in the State forest then i expected. Soon I found myself coming up on these water holes that just kept getting deeper and deeper. Then they weren't as deep and I thought I was inb the clear when all the sudde this hole swallowed me and the mighty KLR. An extra ten horsepower wouldn't have even worked in this case. Even with all the extra Horse power I have in the engine now didn't help any. I had it stuck in soupy mud right up to the skid plate. Man this crap was like peanut butter. and I had water up to the bottom of the seat. I looked like I was out there testing some kinda new submarine. So after about an hour of wresatling with this thing and trying to pull it with a rope a big old truck came down the road and I was sure glad he wanted to get around me because he was more than willing to pull me out. After I was pulled out it took about another hour to drain the carb and pull the plug and clear the cylinder. I was lucky enough the guy that help me had some extra oil on him so I could change the oil. Apparently he sinks his truck a lot because he had all the stuff to do an oil change. Good news is The good old KLR fired up after a few tries on the starter button and I was on my way home in the opposite direction. Just thought I would share my fun for the day with everyone and hope your fourth went a little better then mine did. Don R Ride It Like You Stole It. A19 NJ

Top posted. Don, I think I would change the oil/filter again (Rotella or course) and dont forget to inspect the aircleaner (NoToil X 6 at my house) and 'lube' the chain with wd40. revmaaatin. who hopes he never has to do a double oil change like this! --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "klr650_ryder" wrote:

I know you want to say it Rev, but are measuring your words due to your calling. So I'll say if for you "ass-less chaps". There I said it. Now let's see if the sluice gates open - again! And I'm not going to associate the wearing of them with HD riders. Don revmaaatin wrote:

Re-grease the wheel bearings too. I didn't after a similar stunt, burned them out and had to replace them. Well Don, as you can imagine, I measure all my words carefully, however, if I could take a second measurement and say, after spending an hour in the muck, "He did not ask if the pickup driver was wearing a thong with his chaps." My horse, roping saddle, and 'stones' prefer that I wear Wrangler's (not a thong) when I wear chaps. Fully functional, hips down to the toes of my boots; they are called 'bat-wings' and are the type of chaps, seen/worn in all the 'B' grade movies of the 40's-50's. Speaking of an ass, did you know that it is pivotal in one of the most significant arguments occurring in the New Testament? Sure you do. Here it is for the rest of you.... Mary rode Joseph's ass all the way to Jerusalem. (or so I'm told). FYI: There isn't an actually donkey/ass/mule (with or with out chaps; with or without a thong) listed in the gospel accounts. The Christmas pageant of Mary on Joseph's donkey is just myth, conjecture at best as there is no written record of Joseph owning a beast of burden, or Mary riding it. Read it for yourself. For some more odd biblical language, check this out: 1) Goggle http://www.biblegateway.com/ 2) Be sure to select the King James Version (KJV) 3) And type in this verse one at a time. 2 Kings 18:27 Isaiah 36:12 Did that bring a smile? And then these verses: 1 Samuel 25:22; 25:34 1 Kings 14:10; 16:11; 21:21 2 Kings 9:8 Whoa! Where did that come from!!!! I guarantee none of you have heard a Sunday Sermon with any of these scriptures used as the 'theme'. When I asked the gray-haired ladies if they have read their Bibles, and then ask them to turn to these scriptures, it makes their hair stand on end. I usually don't ask the question twice...but it always gets an "oh-my" and several chuckles to find something that they did not know before. I would go you one better, after looking up these verses, ask your pastor, any pastor/priest if those two words (beginning with a 'P', yes, you have to look it up to play along) are in their Bible. My guess over 90% will say, NO-WAY, that's VULGAR. I didn't write it, I just report it. revmaaatin. The Bible: read it again for the first time. You will be amazed about what you will learn about yourself. You will be amazed how it will change your life. Sort of like a KLR, without chaps. Ps. I am not a big-fan of the KING JAMES VERSION (1611) translation, for the same reason I would not want my doctor or surgeon using a 400- year-old medical book to diagnose my ailments. My personal favorite translation is the THE LEARNING BIBLE:Contemporary English Version (2000/1995), available at Amazon dot com for about $32. Ping me off line if you would like to know more.

Hi Rev. I fully understand the necessity for wearing chaps while riding horses through brush and other nasty vegetation out on the range. On the other hand, I personally have not heard of accounts of Harleys out on the range being used in a round up. Of course, I don't have that kind of exposure so maybe you can verify that for me. As far as Mary and Joseph's ass goes. I have neither donkey nor burro nor mule. However, my wife, like Mary, often seems to find ways to ride my ass as well. Must be an instinctive female quality passed down through the ages. Don revmaaatin wrote:

Sorry if this question sounds dumb, but why change the oil ? How could it have been contaminated after this muddy experience ? Steph, Ottawa, A19

I believe it is caused by water flowing from the air filter chamber into the crankcase via the crankcase ventilation system. I definitely had some water in my crankcase after drowning my bike and flushed the crankcase with new oil and changed the filter several times afterward just to be sure.
