over heating
Has anyone ever had the bottom outlet on the coolant reservoir
melt ????? While it still has water in it ???? Yeah it sound crazy
to me as well, but I have just drilled a hole through mine because
It had sealed shut causing the bike to overheat.
Answers on a post card.

over heating
That's normal for the KLR and a by-pass switch is the best way to go.
It can be wired directly to the battery with the switch in a place hard
to see so nobody walks by and flips it on and runs down the battery.

over heating
the cooling fan doesnt turn on but i checked the fan and it is still good,my service manuals are to far away for me to just get them and i wonder if anyone knows how to fix this delima of mine.

I started to get the same problem with my 87' and I think the problem is the sending unit. Mine was not consistant about on/off, even when Iparked it. I would walk away after the fan shut off, but go back through the shop an hour later and it was on again! I decided to think for the bike and put a switch above the gauges(the black headlight blocker) and now I turn it on after I start it. This has worked great while trail riding, especially when climbing hills and going slow. Give that a try, I think that's the best answer even if you replace the thermostat and get it working right. check the fuse and holder under the right air scoop, by the coolant
resevoir.
Your fan should turn on if you pull the wire off the bottom of the
radiator and ground it.

Hey Rev
I broke 7 ribs and colarbone, 8 weeks ago. I went back to work after 2
weeks, exercised shoulder for 4 weeks, and started riding on the 6th week.
I found my neck and right side would cramp up some, my commute is 350 miles
one way. I crashed on my BUSA, and am now riding the RT which is very
comfortable. Don't know if I could go 350 miles on the sport bike. I am
exercising with weights now, but still somewhat sore and weak. Cannot lay on
my right side yet.
I used no sling, support whatsoever, doctor said nothing helps. My colar
bone is now got a very big knot, and very weak. I can hit golf balls
though, and do most everything else with some discomfort. I talked to a
fellow worker and his broken colar bone is still weaker than the other side,
18 years later. Don't understand why they do not set the broken colar bone
and make it whole, like before.
I don't every want to go through broken ribs again, three, four weeks of
pure pain, no sleep.
