Thank You for having the wisdom for knowing what everyone wants.
No, I was just using a random, comparably-priced vehicle that is more
machine for the money. I could have chosen just about any $30,000
car.
Shit, a used 1978 Cessna 152 is more machine at $30,000

And a overhead cam and liquid cooling means what? Is that some measure of
perfection? The pinnacle of engine design??? Is that why the KLR engine is
such a powerhouse?? Who cares?
At least with the Harley, you won't have the coolant leaks and coolant
changes to do. Who cares?
Perhaps you should get off your butt and out from behind the TV, and stop
reading the bike magazines comparing the smallest trivial details to find a
winner, long enough to realize it doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. Yeah,
right, a GSXR is better than a FZR because it weighs 3.8 pounds less, makes 2.7
HP more, and goes around a track .89 seconds faster. Who cares?
Do you even know what an overhead cam is? Or why it is considered better??
Or the advantage of liquid cooling over air cooling?? If any??
Did you know the most powerful engines in the would are pushrod design?
Surprise!!!! Just like a Harley!!! Surprise!!! (Top Fuel dragsters, 500
cubic inch, 7000+ HP, pushrod Chrysler Hemi 1960's design). Yes, I'm sure an
overhead cam liquid cooled version would make more power. Who cares?? The
point is, it still works.
99 % of the people on bikes won't ever know the difference.
NEWS FLASH: people have different tastes. Whatever floats your boat. You
think you are better off on your thrifty KLR as opposed to some dumb Harley
owner that got "taken for a ride" on the cost of his ride?
I always laugh at how people gush about the very latest techno whiz-crap
this week, and would not be caught dead with it one year from now, as it is
outdated. Who cares?
Just because it is old doesn't mean it doesn't work.
I think the real people with ego problems are some KLR riders here talking
about other bikes. Are you tired of people thumbing your nose at you for
riding your plastic bike?? Do you secretly wish you had a Harley, but can't
afford it? Who cares?
Get a life, and keep this nonsense crap off this list. It is comparing
apples to oranges.

Your delivery didn't exactly come across as tongue-in-cheek.

Reel it in Jeff.
This is a discussion group. We're all entitled to our opinions. Sounds like you have blown a gasket! Maybe take a little nap and have sweet dreams of your Harley Stratton.
You got to lighten up a bit.
Regards,
Don

Look at the post more carefully. You will see a few "....." after that
comment.
That is kind of like putting a "smiley" after something.

And I could have bought a nice Cessna 152 in 1989 for about $600)-$8000 when
I worked at the airport.
What does that tell you. Prices went up because of supply and demand. In
the Cessna case, it is limited supply (they ain't making any more) until
recently.
For the Harley, it is demand is greater than supply.
Hope you have fun driving your Cessna down the highway.

I don't happen to have a problem with Harleys in general. If thats what
someone likes, ride it. I don't care for the Harley rider mentality
(anything else on the road is a piece of junk), and I'm with Mark on
the technology-for-dollar comparison. For half the price of a Harley, I
can get a V-4 ST1300 with more power, smoother engine, better ride and
handling, etc. I don't believe in pricing something with a desirable
name and inferior product very high just because some people are
ignorant enough to buy them. If a Harley tourer cost half as much as a
Gold Wing, or even a Yamaha Royal Star, then I'd say it was fair
pricing. But pricing a Harley similar to a Commander, which has FAR
more engineering, technology, etc., is just foolish. Then again, I
guess enough people are willing to spend the money, so Harley makes out
like a bandit. Its amazing what marketing and hype will do for a
product.
