Anyone have highway pegs they want to get sell cheap. I have a 1998 and would love to cruise the highways all summer in style. Email me direct if you want to part with them. jiminwaseca@...

highway pegs

I'm back looking for advice. It's time to get highway pegs for my 03 KLR 650. I am 6'4" and have long legs. I love the riding position on the KLR, but would be more comfortable if I could stretch my legs a little on the highway. I know Happy Trails sells highway pegs. Does anyone else? If you have Happy Trails are you satisfied? Thanks,Dan A17 KZ1100

I have the Happy Trails pegs. I've actually been through two sets, by being an idiot and toppling the bike over hard enough on pavement to bend the first set all up. But, on the plus side, the highway peg hit first, bent cleanly, and ensured that everything else stayed perfectly straight and alighed -- probably a good idea that it was not made any stronger than it was! For the second set, I went for the slightly pricier version with the built-in engine guard. The engine guard is nice (and it has caught a few rocks and branches, though I don't know that they would have hurt the engine any) but I am not 100% satisfied with the highway pegs themselves because HT added triangular stiffeners to back up the weld between the peg itself and the vertical mounting bracket. Eric's bike went down on pavement in sideways snow one night in Lander and the Better, Stronger highway pegs obligingly bent the heck out of his motor mounts -- two of those cost about what the set of highway pegs costs! With the big triangular stiffener, the peg assembly might be strong enough to bend more than just the motor mount; I'm planning to notch mine with the Dremel next time I'm working on the bike so they will crumple and save the pricy bits if I go down again on a hard surface. In other words, stronger isn't always better, especially not for stuff that sticks out to the side of the bike and might get hit hard if you fall down. For this reason I'd go for the plain HT pegs over the engine-guard version if you're mostly going to do road riding, or the engine-guard ones but notching or removing the stiffener if you do decide the guard has a lot of value to you. 36" inseam and Happy Trails Pegs work fine for me. Not quite enough extention to fully lengthen my legs, but still a very nice variation for the long haul. I've got the Happy Trail pegs and I highly recommend them. Took care of the killer knee pain I got from being cramped all the time. Really easy to install and look good which I also liked. Stuff made of metal is stuff made of metal. I own the HT nerf bars and OS racks, but if I could have gotten similar quality cheaper I would have. I'm a happy HT customer, but I say Long live competition. Pat --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "wannabsmooth1" wrote:

You must have an leak in the system upstream somewhere or......the wind blows in the wrong direction in your area. My wife hates riding on the back as it gives her vertigo. Sometimes it's necessary; if she was bathed in fumes I'd sure hear about it. Bogdan

What's the buzz on the highway pegs we sometimes see on Ebay? My thighs and hips tend to cramp after a couple of hours and I'm wondering if these would help. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Mail Beta.
