It's not an H/T part - it's a copy. Some of the stuff from there is good, some ok, some ??? Some of the H/T copies use a much lighter grade of tubing. This might be ok - up to a point. It's possible to catch almost anyone at a bad time. If 10 people call just ahead of you, or 1 guy orders a bunch, it's possible to be out of stock. This can even happen with a company as big as Kawasaki. I've waited months for a part from them and other companies that have much greater resources than any of the companies that try to keep things going in the KLR world. Sometimes I've had 3 or 4 customers call the same day - all wanted the same thing - and I was instantly back ordered for a month! Sometimes I can't even get a standard size of material after calling 4 suppliers. Then when I find it - if I want it it's 30 to 50 percent higher than the usual supplier. Question for the original poster - Happy Trails has an 800 number. Did you call them? And ask (preferably nicely) what happened? all the best, Mike

Tom, Your rack from KLR650.net was made in Taiwan and is a HT knock off made of lighter tubing. If you want the true thing, order it from Fred at Arrowhead or Happy trails directly. -Andy BIFBR Andyt59@... http://myweb.cableone.net/tbernard -----Original Message----- From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of wannabsmooth1 Sent: Tuesday, April 04, 2006 10:17 PM To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Re: UN-happy trails :-( ? Andy, you've been good on occasion before in acknowledging that you're related (by marriage) to Tim Bernard who owns Happy Trails. Probably not a good time to stop :-)) Anyways, if we're going on a Taiwan bashing exercise, then maybe consider eBay item #4626878176. Last I checked he makes them in his garage in the good ole U S of A. Anyways, the initial thread wasn't one of knockoffs vs original, it was about customer service. The whole knockoff vs original is a altogether different but interesting issue. It's not like there is a lot of rocket science in making a side rack. I believe people made and sold them before HT came along, but maybe I'm wrong (so I'll don my asbestos suit in anticipation). best Tony

It won't be. It will be manufactured in China, and may be a knockoff of the original HT part.

OK, This horse has been beaten. Every one will run into bad customer service at some time in their life. I know I have. As mentioned in a previous post: "It's possible to catch almost anyone at a bad time. If 10 people call just ahead of you, or 1 guy orders a bunch, it's possible to be out of stock. This can even happen with a company as big as Kawasaki. Sometimes I can't even get a standard size of material after calling 4 suppliers. Then when I find it - if I want it it's 30 to 50 percent higher than the usual supplier." My suggestion is a lesson I learned the hard way: You can gripe and moan all you want, but, if you don't do it to the right people, you are talking to the wind... Happy Trails can be contacted through their web site: http://www.happy-trail.com -Andy

Except that when you gripe here you're doing a service to everyone on the list by giving a heads up about problems HT has with customer service. One person going on and on is one thing - half a dozen complaints indicating that they don't have the curiosity to even contact you if they are out of stock is more than just a company having "bad day."..... -don

Just a stab in the dark, but I'm thinking the guys that get upset are in the vast minority here, and maybe they haven't dealt with small comanies that cater to niche markets in this fashion. Mike's right on the money. Call them on the telephone, hash it out in private before you trash them on a public forum. You can have it fast, cheap, or quality. Pick any two. Thanks CA Stu
